Am I doing too much?

I’m trying to make a dress for my graduation, and I fear I’ve been too ambitious. I’m using the corset bundle from DaisyPattern as a base for my bodice, and I’ve decided to swap the double plastic boning for a mix of flat and spiral steel since I hate when I sit down with plastic boning and it just…stays like that…

I originally planned to just do cotton poplin for the top and lining layer and interface it with a lightweight fusible interfacing. Now, I’m wondering if I need to do canvas since I’m using metal? Do I also need to make separate channels using twill tape or can I just do the channels between the canvas outer and cotton poplin lining?

I’m not going to be waist training, and the bodice is definitely shaping but it’s not incredibly tight. I just can’t tell if I’m doing too much or not enough. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Photo is my toile and the fabric I’m using as a shell.
