Would you and your significant other survive the trial of Orpheus and Eurydice?
So for those that don’t know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice a quick summation:
Orpheus was the son of a muse whose songs could move the earth himself. Eurydice was a dryad. They saw one another, fell in love, and married . Unfortunately this was a doomed love as one day by herself Eurydice was pursued by the minor god Aristaeus. Chased through the woods the dryad had the unfortunate luck to step on a viper, which struck and killed her. Saddened by the loss of his wife Orpheus set out to free her from the underworld. On his way down he uses his singing skills to persuade Charon to let a living soul through and lulls Cerberus to sleep. His singing ultimately convinces Hades and Persephone to take Eurydice back but upon the condition that he walk in front and never look back. Right near the surface Orpheus unfortunately looks back and Eurydice is lost forever.
So you and your significant other find yourselves, like the doomed couple had, before Hades and Persephone. They offer you the same condition but they also know how popular the myth is among the mortal. An additional constraint is that you and your partner will have any knowledge of the myth stripped from your memories. Any peripheral information would also be pulled, but anything Greek mythology related that doesn’t connect to the myth would be left in your heads. Do you think that you could pass the test? And why do you think you’d be able to?
Pondering something from Burn (contains spoilers)
So watched Burn last night, which I’m so glad I saw it in theaters , and one thing I couldn’t help ponder is what would happen if you stabbed a possessed victim in a way that isn’t fatal. Would the victim be able to survive or is it always going to be a mercy killing.
I feel like it depends on what the deadite has done to the host body and whether they were dead or not when they got possessed. Though that gets complicated because we saw any damage to the host get reversed when Mia was cured in Evil Dead 2013.
This thought came to me when possessed Joseph popped up through the floor into the attic. His hand was on the edge and I was thinking that Alice was going to stab his hand with the real dagger.
Anyway, any thoughts?
Your spouse/significant other has just died and your grief has so moved the god of plot contrivance that they offer you a boon:
They can’t bring back your loved one but what they can do is pull a version of the same person from somewhere in the multiverse as a replacement. They will be mostly the same as the one that just died, some differences would likely be inevitable, but the one guarantee that the god gives you is that they come from a timeline where you recently died and they are open to dating/loving you. Do you accept?
Note; if you are poly, then all your polycule has died but compatible versions of those same people would step in.
Edit: to expand upon this, if your alt-spouse has kids they will come over too. It will magically be like they already existed in our universe with all legal documentation. Their jobs, if an analog exists here, would also exist.
