Not 'The Mummy', not 'Other Mommy', not 'Resident Evil'

No, guess what, the next best thing to Evil Dead came from the guy that made Evil Dead. Whodda thunk-it?

Idk why I slept on Drag Me to Hell for so long, I just watched it as part of the Season of Screams event.

It's Raimi at his finest.

Heavy spoilers for a nearly 20yr old flick

The protagonist - Kinda nice but you can see under the surface their moral weaknesses. They get thrown around enough to finally be pissed off enough to fight back (regardless of whether it helps)

We see Ash's car in the film (would have loved to see a cameo of Bruce maybe in the diner but hey what can you do).

The cinematography is Raimi to a T, the angles the are what sells it, the lighting in the cemetery scene. It just all felt right when mixed with music that just felt so...true to form.

Not to mention the physical gags, the demon is a jackass. Loves tormenting people, the comedy of the fights and throwing this girl around. The physical prop work is so strong (the 3D is absolute garbage I'll say that)

At this point I believe gypsies are just...I don't know kandarian demon magic and that's how they work. Idk, they're the living descendants of the Dark Ones I guess idc.

But that bit with the handkerchief going down her throat? That's pure Evil Dead kandarian nonsense.

The reason however this is purely an Evil Dead film is the bit where the assistant gets possessed. When he's floating in the air and dancing around, this is a Deadite, you can't tell me otherwise

The ending - remember, ash is supposed to be dead at the end of ED1, the only reason he came back was because it was a sequel. Did Christine deserve it? ...eh, she killed a kitten she personally owned so she can kinda fuck off.

I'm not saying Ash wouldn't kill a cat, but it wouldn't be his cat, it'd be the crazy cat lady or some rich dude, or a snot nosed brat...and the cat would probably come back possessed.

Fact is, nothing film wise has scratched this itch of the original trilogy. Not even Rise which is (to me) the funniest of the newest films.

It's great, if you haven't seen it then give it a shot, if you haven't watched it in a while give it another run.

Hey there everyone, I’ll make this post vague to try protect my identity a bit and try not to spoil anything major on the upcoming film.

Writer and director Francis Galluppi really shines with his directorial vision for this film, I found that it was quite honestly the best film we have gotten since the 2013 remake.

There is a direct connection to the 2013 remake which suprised me, I assumed that they were done with that part of the franchise, the connection to that film is reminiscent of Army of Darkness.

The 1970s production design and atmosphere are really unique and refreshing after the 2013-26 trilogy of dark and gritty modern reboot films, it does almost take you back to Evil Dead (1983) and Evil Dead II (1987)

The dark humor doesn’t feel as forced or isn’t as absent compared to Evil Dead Burn, it’s witty and quick, made my mouth drop a few times. The pacing is strong, however I did feel everyone’s interest and energy drop toward the ending of the film, so there will possibly? be reshoots for that.

Sam Raimi seems to have or I assume a much larger input creatively on this film compared to Evil Dead Rise (2023) and Evil Dead Burn (2026)

There weren’t much unfinished visual effects shots or major vfx shots, which makes it seem that most of this film is practically shot (more so than the climax of Evil Dead Burn.

We’re still over a year from the release date, so I would expect reshoots, maybe some more character development and a rework of that ending.

The writing was all over the place and it wasn't as good as the older evil dead movies, i really enjoyed evil dead (1981) evil dead 2 was pretty good i liked evil dead 2013 and evil dead rise but burn was awful it definitely could have been better in my opinion.

I've heard that Evil Dead Wrath is supposed to be set in the 70's, but it's my understanding that the Necronomicon was dormant in Castle Kandar until it was rediscovered by Professor Knowby in the early 1980's. His recording of the incantation can't have happened too long before Evil Dead 2 because he apparently hadn't been reported missing. Also he likely wouldn't have read aloud from the book if something overtly demonic had happened during the excavation, so that rules that out, and the first tape implies that all of the tapes were made in the cabin, so it's likely not a case of one of the tapes getting loose for a period of time

I’m going with Annie Knowby from Evil Dead II. She’s smart, beautiful, brave, and kept fighting even after all she had been through. I was hoping she would make a return somehow in Ash vs Evil Dead.

I like to think the in cannon reason we don't have ash in the new movies is because ash is unconscious as we see at the end of ash vs evil dead and the new movies kind of show how things are turning to hell
