What would you do if a dealer pulled this?

Hi everyone.

Long story short, decided to treat myself for my upcoming B'Day and get my motorcycle license and a bike (never used them before).

I found a good, used bike, fairly recent, LAMS, in good nick, around 9,000Ks, and a reasonable price. I went and looked at it, liked it, and bought it the next day. The dealership got all the paperwork sorted in a day, then took 2.5 weeks to turn around the RWC and get it delivered.

I didn't want to ride it until my B'Day, but figured I should look it over and make sure there's no glaring problems to fix. I turn it on, and the odo is almost 25,000Ks, more than double what they advertised it as. Checked the paperwork, it's the advertised figure as well.

I contacted the dealership, they say they'll check and get back to me. 5 hours later I call again, I get told it was a clerical error and that the manager is away so they won't get back to me till Moday.

They asked what I'd like to do, and I told them the only 2 ways forward that I can see are:

  1. Return it, and be pretty bummed out for my B'Day.
  2. Get a mechanic to look it over and, assuming it's in good shape, work out compensation with the dealer.

I had intended to put a good 5,000-10,000K more Ks on it, so the resale value is going to be pretty heavily impacted. I also understand that the 20,000Ks mark is a potentially expensive maintenance point, and the dealership didn't have a logbook (a fact I didn't particularly care about when it only had 9,000Ks on it), so I'd need to make sure the bike has actually been maintained and doesn't need significant money in 12-24 months, which seems like a hassle.

If I hadn't have lined everything up (getting my Ls, gear, etc this past week), I would probably just return it and move on, but I find that a massive gut-punch when I have no time to replace the bike now, and I'd be back to square-one anyway of finding a bike (I checked, slim pickings at the moment).

Thoughts?

EDIT: Thanks for the input everyone, I'm going to go inspect a few bikes tomorrow I found online. If they pan out, I'll just tell this dealer to refund me and I'll go with a private seller bike (that I pay a mechanic to inspect before I buy). Hopefully I can get it in time, but if not, sh*t happens.
