Driver attitudes toward filtering

After an unusual interaction with a driver this morning after slowly filtering to the front of a red light through stopped traffic, I’m interested to hear others experiences with drivers. Most drivers are cool, but some seem to become irrationally upset about it. Is it because people think it’s illegal, or don’t understand the reasons we do it, or are they just think it’s unfair?

What are your experiences?

Is it me or buses are reckless?

Okay I am probably wrong here: the bus had his right indicator on, and I still went.

But hard for me to tell if:

  • he's changing lane, or
  • just indicating he has picked up passengers and is leaving now (but stays in the same lane, as many buses do because it's a bus lane),
  • he's moving (because traffic is not)

Would be great if the driver checked his blind spot though 🫠

(just bored... so Q) What bikes have you owned, what is your current, and what was your fav & why?

Just bored and have no life and its raining... so question time.

What bikes have you owned, what is your current, and what was your fav or which do you regret letting go & why?

Particularly interested about those who have owned 600s and 1000s, which they prefer overall.

What are the most hardest bikes to sell?

I've been watching the used market quite a bit, as I'm in the market for a daily. There's seems to bikes like Royal Enfield, CF Moto, Ducati monsters which are sitting for months on end.

Whereas Kawa ZX's, Yamaha MT's, Suzuki GSX's, Honda CB's and CBR's seem to be flying moving quite well.
What gives?

first time posting here, just wanted to throw a couple of questions around

so for context, im 23. currently on my driving Ls, but do not have access in pretty much any capacity to a consistent way to get my hours up. living out of home, check to check, so paid lessons are out of the question. no one i know is fully licensed and also capable of taking me driving consistently.

basically everything that COULD work against me, has/is, my back is really against the wall here. needing to rely on public transport daily is becoming tiresome. then I started looking into a bike license…realising it only takes a two day course to get your Ls, ive been heavily considering it.

im well aware of the risks that come along with being on a bike/scooter vs a car. going into it, im completely aware I’ll have to make sacrifices, spend money on gear, get post license training etc. but i really, REALLY need a mode of transport for myself, just to get from A to B (work, gym, occasional shop run).

would it be worth it, in my case, to invest in bike training? i have roughly 30 hours of driver training, so im not dim to the rules of the road. definitely a ways away from being a qualified driver, but i know enough to not be an idiot on the road.

i guess im making this post just for some solidarity above all else because i had to get it off my chest. if you guys have any good bike/scooter recs for learners, or any general tips, words of wisdom etc, feel free to lay it on me. im beyond willing to expand and learn. thank you for listening

Buying a bike at 50. Yay or nay?

I'll be 50 in a couple of months and I really want a bike. I haven't ridden in 27 years and I wasn't even licensed to then. I still don't have a motorcycle license. I've found a tidy 1989 Honda CBR1000. Sounds like it will be mint to cruise on and super stable.

Is this a good or bad idea in your opinion?

Cheers. 👍

Anyone else find it absolutely batshit insane that even with paying the $50-100, some time more for shipping through fc moto or champion helmets is still cheaper than buying through Aussie distributers?

How is this possible. Also along with the fact that our local shops tend to not have any up to date collections handy in store to try.

It's not worth it for small ticket items but once you start looking into nice gear to invest in, it's a no brainer.

Im looking into finally some nice Gore-Tex jackets in anticipation for winter and im literally paying 60% of the msrp here, shipping included. Only downside is the slow shipping

How and why do we get royally fucked like this?

Motorcycle Camping

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip from Brisbane down to Phillip Island around MotoGP time. I’ve never camped with a bike before but I’m keen as I love camping in general.

I have some questions for those who are experienced in this area, I have a MT-10 and am planning to fit it with saddlebags and a tail bag.

What are the most important things to bring/plan when doing this?

I need to find a quality, compact tent and sleeping bag mainly. Any great options out there?

In terms of what to bring, it’ll be roughly:
- Couple changes of clothes
- Wet weather gear
- Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, trimmer)
- Compact tent + sleeping bag, inflatable pillow
- Tool kit for basic maintenance
- Compact tyre inflator, gauge, chain lube, visor cleaner
- 4L fuel cell?
- Water, will make a lot of jerky before departing also

I plan to use sites like Hipcamp along the way to find places to sleep.

Is there anything you wouldn’t go moto camping without?

Feel free to drop any suggestions, tips, or items/products!

Saw this floating around and figured I’d share because petrol prices are crazy right now and free money is free money 😂

ING are currently offering anyone who signs up before May 31st a $100 bonus. No catches other than doing a few easy things once your account’s open. Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Use the following link to sign up - Link here
  2. Deposit $1000 (you can transfer out once you receive your $100 bonus)
  3. Make 5 purchases - Just use the card you get sent on your weekly shopping (split the transaction into 5 payments at checkout)
  4. Open a savings maximiser account and deposit $1 into it (you can do this straight away once you sign up they walk you through everything)

Then you just sit back and wait for ING to drop that $100 straight into your account. You can transfer it to your main bank, or spend it with the ING card, up to you.

Took me less than 10 minutes to do everything and it’s one of the easiest bonuses I’ve seen. Longest part is waiting for the card to arrive but once you have it you can just use it with your regular shopping for 1 week.

Do safety recalls mandated by the govt have an expiry date?

Just found out the vehicle I bought recently. It's vin number is part of the drive shaft recall done by honda at 2015. the previous owner didn't know about it. Is honda still legally obliged to fix the defect?

Has anyone here been caught riding without a supervisor while on their learner licence?

I recently got my learner motorcycle licence a few weeks ago, but I don’t really have anyone available to supervise me when I want to ride. I’ve been doing very short practice rides early in the morning (around 6–7am) and staying within a few kilometres of my house just to build confidence.

I’m curious if anyone has been in a similar situation and ended up getting stopped while riding unsupervised, and what the outcome was?

Also wondering how strictly this is enforced in practice, especially for low-risk situations like quiet roads and short, local rides?

Purchasing a motorbike from another state: How to?

So I’m looking at purchasing a motorbike and I’ve had better luck finding what I want (Harley sportster pre 2003 model) in another state. I want to get it freighted over but I’m a bit unsure about sending someone money and getting the bike picked up and dropped off.

Anyone have any tips or info or experience in this? Is it easy? Is there a company that can secure the bike for me?

KTM Adventure Bike Jacket Size Small / Real or Fake?

Just came across this in one of the Facebook Marketplace ad.

From the photos, does it look like a real deal? It's like super cheap. Like 90% cheaper than original.

Their other posts are of full of different other motorcycle gears but their prices are somewhat comparable to other online retailers. Only this is super cheap.

Tricky situation with interstate licence transfer, need help

Hey guys!

I was hoping someone out there would be able to help.

I recently relocated from NT to QLD and i have been commuting to work for the past 6months on my motorcycle.

Not being from Australia originaly, and not having the time to finish my riding exam to get the license in Europe i figured i would finish my licence in Australia which i did and was very easy. Thanks to NT rules, riders can ride unsupervised on their Learner licence, so that's what i was doing when i was living in NT.

I recently relocated to QLD and wanted to transfer my licence as it is legaly required within 3months after relocating. However i'm running into an issue : once my licence transfered i will lose the right to ride on my own in QLD until i get the HPT test and Qride/Qsafe test. I do not own a car and work during night shift in far north QLD meaning public transportation is not really good.

I already got pulled over twice due to displaying my L plate as i'm legaly required but without having a supervisor. I just relocated and still ride with my NT licence which makes me able to do that for my first 3months in QLD. Police officers were cool about it and after understanding the situation, they let me go as i do not drive recklessly, use my blinkers all the time and do headchecks whenever it's needed.

My main issue being that during the interstate licence transfer in order to be eligible to get HPT test and Qride test, i would not be able to commute to work "legaly" which would lead me to lose it if i don't find a solution. The only one that comes to my mind is renting a car to commute while they process my licence and i pass all the tests required to get my P but it would be quite expensive.

Has anyone been in the same situation and has suggestions to do things the legal way?

Thanks for reading me :)

Going for my RE license in a few days. Tips would be appreciated

As it states I’m going for my test on Thursday, I’ve done a lot of practice and feel confident riding.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for o-turns. 4/5 times I can do it without issue. But every now and then the bike feels as if it will tip and I put my foot down for balance.

I know there are immediate fails (such as not being able to do o-turns). But is there a certain amount of points lost for not doing things right before it’s a fail.

Thanks in advance

My bike got stolen last night in Charlestown NSW

My pride and joy, they snapped the front brake lever with the lock and rolled her away, all at 4:48am(neighbour gave me security footage).

Feeling, lost, broken, and homicidal.
