Opinions on the better LAMS adventure bikes to look at.

Hey team.

Moving to Tassie next month and looking at getting my Ls. I am pretty set on getting an adventure bike for more long distance comfort, touring, and being able to go off road (within reason obviously). Basically I'll be riding it to and from work, which is a 25km ride in each direction (mostly a highway), but I enjoy touring and exploring, which is another reason I want an adventure bike.

I want to keep my budget under 10k (hopefully including some of my riding gear) and would prefer something that's low ks, fairly new (or brand new or at least under warranty) and easy to work on. I keep coming back to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. Any feedback? I see that it sometimes has a few small annoyances. Or is there something else to look for? Other bikes I liked were the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and Kawasaki KLE500 (although it was getting a bit pricey). I thought the 300 might struggle a bit on the highway.

Thanks all.

Am I too old to start riding at 39? Tasmania.

Hi all, first-time poster.

I’m 39, moving to Tasmania, and considering getting my motorcycle licence. I have virtually zero motorcycle experience apart from riding a postie bike as a teenager, although I regularly ride mountain bikes.

My new job will be a 25 km each-way commute along the West Tamar Highway, and I’m thinking a small LAMS bike could be a fun and economical alternative to my 4WD.

My question is: am I mad to be starting motorcycling at 39 with no real experience?

I’m sensible, reasonably fit and would take the training seriously, but I’m conscious I won’t have the instincts and experience of someone who has been riding for years.

For those who started riding later in life — how did you find it, and what would you tell someone starting from scratch at 39?

Edit: you guys are awesome. Thanks for the positive and encouraging words! I'm super keen now!

Very happy with my first G-Shock

I've held off on buying a G-Shock for years because I have small wrists and thought the G-Shock was too big and bulky for my 16cm (6.3inch) wrist.

I recently bought a G5600 because the price was so cheap, and wow! I love it and wish I bought it sooner!

The only thing I possibly want to do is change out the strap to something wider, and would love some inspiration. I love NATO straps but also thinking a Khaki coloured silicone strap will also be a good option, especially as I work in healthcare and it will be easier to clean.

Any other mods or upgrades I should look at? And now that I've dipped my toes into the G-Shock world, how would a "Casioak" look on my wrist? Too big?

Help me pick a solar watch please

Hello. I'd like to add a solar watch to my small collection of watches (currently consisting of 3x Seiko 5s and a Timex Weekender).

I'm hoping to get some suggestions please!

Firstly, I have small wrists (about 6.3 inches or 16cm). Photo attached is of my SNZG11J1, which I feel comfortable wearing.

I like field/NATO style watches and would like to find a nice solar watch that I can use as a bit of a beater (fishing, hiking, 4wding), but also look near enough that I can wear it to work sometimes (I'm a community nurse).

I'd like to keep the budget under $250AUD if possible and would like an analogue display, and something with a quiet mechanism (not like the Timex Weekender!). I really like the look of the Casio G-Shock GA-B2100-1A (Casioak), but am a bit concerned that any G-Shock will look a bit silly or oversized on my wrist.

The other watches I like are the Citizen Eco-drives but haven't really found any that suit. I'm also open to other brands that are of a reasonable quality. I've looked at a couple Timex Expedition watches but apparently they run bigger than the G-Shock Casioaks.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

[question] SNZG11J1 watch strap suggestions

This is my every day watch. It was the first automatic I ever bought and I Iove it to bits. I'm thinking of changing the strap out to a different colour NATO and wondering if people have any pics of theirs?

The current blue strap matches my work scrubs and the strap still stiff after years of use. It's time for a change.

I was thinking a khaki colour NATO strap or even a dark grey? Something that still compliments the dark blue dial but looks a bit different.

Bonus points if you're Australian and have suggestions on quality straps available locally.

Olight freebie.

Free gift torch from Olight when I purchased a headlight mount for my Skilhunt 200 mini. I threw it on my key chain not thinking I'd ever use it. I'm a community nurse and today I used it in the middle of the day to help assess a patient who lived in a very dark and closed up house.

I like that it runs on a simple AAA battery and has a good waterproof rating. I also worked out that you don't need to twist the head of the torch to turn it on, but you can also "squeeze" and hold the head of the torch towards the body of the torch to activate the light.

Multitool vs seperate tools

Just wondering what everyone else is carrying as a basic fly fishing carry for trout? I mean tool/repair wise, not flies, floatant etc.

I'm only new to fly fishing and not really sure what to carry. I thought about a multitool, but don't want to spend lots of money on something when I will only use the same 2 or 3 tools, and also potentially loose.

In the pic attached is what I currently use. The forceps and scissors are freebies, and I get them all the time from work (they are single use only in health care). The Gerber paraframe mini I've had for years. Not pictured is also a nail clipper with hook hone and hook eye cleaner that I carry.

Is there a magic tool everyone uses? Or am I better off using what I have.

My rainbow

A photo of a trout I caught (and released) in Australia. I'm an amateur fisherman at best, and use an ultra-light spin setup. I'd love to learn fly fishing (even bought a fly rod), but I feel that at 40 years old with not much spare time, I wont have much success. Has anyone else started fly fishing for trout later in life?

Quality mini EDC multitool to replace my Dime.

Hello.

My Gerber Dime is about 8 years old now. Every time I put a bit of force behind the knife or box cutter to open something (pretty much cardboard boxes) it eventually starts to bend backwards as the locking mechanism fails. I do love the Dime, but a bit over having to pull it apart and bend/reset the locking mechanism.

I would like to replace it with something similar in size and style. Essentially, I just need a nifty little multi-tool that I can hang off my keyring. Pliers are very handy, as are the small tweezers, so would like these on the next tool if possible.

Any recommendations? I'd like something sturdy that isn't going to fail the same was as the Dime has. I've been eyeing of the Nextool Mini S11 and F12. Apparently the S11 is a better quality build?

Hi all. I'm new to fly fishing and thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm 38, from NSW, Australia, and an average fisherman at best. I wasn't taken fishing as a kid and didn't catch my first fish until my late 20s. Now that I'm a dad, all of my kids have been catching fish since they were about 3, and seeing them enjoy fishing has been great.

I don't get as much time to fish as I'd like, and unfortunately the area I live in isn't known for great fishing. While I do spin and bait fish, I'm completely new to fly fishing and haven't caught a fish on a fly yet! Sometimes I wish I'd discovered fly fishing 20 years ago. It feels like there's a lot of catching up to do, and so much to learn.

What draws me to fly fishing is the challenge, the constant learning, and the chance to spend time outside on the water. I spent six weeks in Canada last year and fell in love with the rivers and creeks, which definitely planted the seed. Since then, I've been listening to podcasts and watching old YouTube videos, trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can before I even get started.

I'm also a health professional, and over the years I've looked after quite a few fishermen. One in particular has always stuck with me. He gave me a small box of flies, an old pair of patched-up waders, and some fly fishing magazines to help me get started. He wanted to teach me, but he was very unwell by then. He has since passed away, but I'll always remember those conversations and his kindness.

I'm moving near Launceston, Tasmania, later this year and have already been looking into joining the local fly fishing club and exploring some nearby rivers and lakes in the hopes to catch some trout. I've bought a simple setup, an 8'6" 4wt, and I'm hoping it's a good place to start.

My goal isn't to become an expert, just a decent fly fisher who enjoys the process. Hopefully my kids will want to learn alongside me, and hopefully one day I'll be able to pass on some knowledge to others that are getting into fly fishing.

If anyone around Tasmania is looking for a fishing buddy, or has any tips, advice, or places worth checking out, I'd love to hear from you. I'm also planning to ask for fly fishing lessons as my birthday present for the next few years!

Thoughts on every day watch

Hi all. My every day watch is a Seiko 5. I have a few Seiko 5s, but this is my first, and also my favourite. It wears well, is easy to read, and has a great lume.

My only concern is that I may be wearing it out and damaging it prematurely. I wear it hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing, gardening, working on the car etc etc. It has picked up a few scratches and chips in the glass already.

My question is, do I keep wearing it all the time like I do? I mean, I know watches are for wearing, but am I better off buying something more rugged and "bash proof" like a G-Shock for some activities? Or even a Timex expedition?

Thank you.

Save is corrupt.. any help?

Any help? The game was being laggy yesterday. Today, every single save file is corrupt. Playing on Xbox one. I had mostly finished this play through, so not super upset, but still mildly frustrated. I've had corrupt saves before, but not every single one like this.

Bad luck or known issue? Skilhunt h200 mini mount. Also, batteries!

Not sure if it's just bad luck or a known issue, or maybe I did something wrong?

The bracket for the head torch snapped within the first week. It is being replaced for free, but still made me concerned as I did want this setup to last several years. All I did was pop it out immediately I heard a snap!

Small bonus though.. the Sofirn SC13 battery fits in the Skilhunt mini as a good back up, and the SC13 also takes the larger Skilhunt 18350 battery and can also charge it in a pinch. Oh, and the torches conveniently are oppositely polarised!

My collection

My small collection so far. I’d like to add a Citizen Eco-Drive and a Timex Expedition someday. I had an Expedition before and loved it, but it eventually died.

My Seiko 5 at the top is my daily and is well worn. The lume is excellent and it’s so easy to read at night.

All of my watches get worn and used, but I'm still a bit sad that I marked the bezel at 12 o’clock on the limited edition khaki Seiko 5. I bought it to wear, not leave sitting on a shelf, but it still hurts a little. The other downside is the lume isn’t great, so I don’t wear it as much because I can’t read the time at night.

Does anyone else love wearing their watches but still feel disappointed when they pick up a new scratch or mark?

Battery questions skilhunt h200 mini

Hi all. Newbie and I'm looking for some spare batteries for my Skilhunt h200 mini. Does anyone know if the vapcell m11 (button top) will work? Specs seem to say yes. But, apparently the standard skilhunt battery measures small (37.5mm) and many protected circuit batteries are too long. I'm in Australia and one BL-111 skilhunt battery is nearly $30 AUD!

Second question. If the vapcells work... Can I just charge them with a sofirn sc13? It's only a few dollars dearer than a charger (with codes and coins). Any cons to this?

Thank you!

Which 18350 battery fits the Skilhunt h200 mini

Just wondering what other batteries are known to fit the Skilhunt h200 mini? I wanted a spare battery but can only find the genuine BL-111 on AliExpress for close to $30 AUD (Australian). From what I have found, not many 18350 batteries will fit. The BL-111 is 37.5mm long with circuit protection. Thank you.

P.S this group is sending me broke.
