[Question] [spb505] [spb515] Help me choose a second watch

Looking for a second watch to pair with my Traska commuter! I can’t decide between the alpinist or speed timer! I absolutely love my Traska but find myself wanting to add something with more character! *SPB507

[SRPG03] A successful gift

Last May, I bought an Alpinist at the airport on my way out of Japan. Mostly it was a chance to check “get a nice Seiko” off of my to do list since I never had the cash when I was living there. Long story short, I’m a watch guy now.

My best friend graduated from grad school last year. Hard guy to get a gift for. He’s not flashy. He would never own an Apple Watch, but his only Timex looks like shit and is on Velcro. He takes care of what he owns. He’s re-soled the same pair of boots for 14 years.

I knew whatever I got him would have to be a stylish, unfussy, and versatile. I landed on the Style 60s presage because it checked all the boxes. A little sporty, a little flashy, and something he can get serviced over and over again for the rest of his life. Picked up a Milanese mesh bracelet to put it on, and gave him a black OEM strap as well as the original bracelet.

I saw him for the first time in almost a year this weekend and gave him the watch. I was nervous because it’s a pricey gift for us and it felt like a gamble.

He loved it. It was everything you could hope for when giving a gift. He wouldn’t stop talking about it. I caught him just staring at it a couple of times, the same way you or I would when we first get that sick new watch. He even had a guy at the bar strike up a conversation with him about it and got to brag!

Experiences like this are why I will always love Seiko. They beautiful, stylish timepieces that are accessible. That watch will mean more to me than any other piece I’ve bought, and makes me glad I became a part of this community. Love yinz!

[SPB383] Photogenic beast

Like the title says the now discontinued MM200 GMT is hell of a beast when you want to take o good pictures of it. I especially like those polished lugs and a trully remarkable bezel 😅

My Almost Free Alpinist [SBDC207]

I came to Osaka for a shopping trip from Okinawa, where I’m from and picked up a heavily discounted Teal Alpinist, from Yodobashi Camera in Umeda. I bought a Grand Seiko and got a lot of Yodobashi points, additional I had already, that I used towards my Alpinist. It was about ¥23,000 or about $144 USD, after the points used. Can’t beat a great deal. I’m a resident of Japan, so tax free shopping doesn’t apply for me here.

This is my second Alpinist, I have the SBEJ005. I really like both very much. The dials on both are gorgeous, that’s for sure!

[question] 25 years worn. Model?

I’ve been lucky to own Jaegers, IWC, Tudors, Breitlings, but this was my first buy and first love. What model is it?

[Time to thin out this box. What would you sell, what would you keep?]

I wouldn’t say any of these are in my core rotation, and I’m struggling to decide what to move. My taste generally skews vintage, restrained, utilitarian, elegant (eg. 1960s Champion Alpinist, Cronos Sea Horse, 44KS, SARB035, Grand Quartz 9043). I think there’s too many divers. Thoughts welcome.

[SSK001] 1st Seiko

been using an apple watch since forever & only wore fashion watches (guess, michael kors) when I was younger. did some research and decided on seiko since its japanese movement had great reviews & they make great looking watches (supreme has also collabed with them on a few projects)

edit: after browsing the sub I plan on replacing the band with a miltat, & possibly add a sapphire crystal for durability.

[SPB503]

Didn’t mean to walk out with a new watch but here I am with this beauty! Will admit that I think it is a little bit pricey for the quality of the bracelet. Felt kind of cheap when I initially held and wore it but just couldn’t get over the teal dial. I have more expensive pieces that will be sharing wrist time with this one now!

[SPB383] mod

I made an AI mod switching the black bezel on this SPB383 for a pepsi, what do you guys think? Are there any actual bezels like this for sale?

The 4 iconic Seiko divers. Here are some thoughts[SLA017][SLA033][SLA039][SLA041]

I have finally completed my Seiko diver's collection. I now have these four watches, each faithfully true to its historical predecessor.
I love the classic look of the SLA017. Its smaller size and the domed sapphire make it look distinctly vintage. However, I found it uncomfortable to wear; its compact diameter combined with its thickness makes it float on the wrist.
The SLA033 is my absolute favorite. I bought my first Seiko watch earlier this year—the SPB257—and fell in love with it immediately, although its build quality didn't quite meet my standards. Then I got my hands on the SLA051. What an improvement over the 257! When I spotted a near-mint SLA033—the ultimate Willard (which we call the 'Abalone' here)—I knew I must have it. Overall, it is a masterpiece, but its proportions don't sit perfectly on my wrist, and I accidentally dented this baby on the very first day I wore it.
Before buying the SLA039, I was hesitant about its size and thickness; it seemed there was no chance it could sit comfortably on my wrist. Once the watch arrived in mint condition, however, I was surprised to find that it is actually the most comfortable piece in the collection. I think this is due to the curvature on the case back, and it wears smaller than the dial size suggests. The Ever-Brilliant Steel gives it an amazing quality, and in my opinion, it is the most premium piece so far.
The SLA041 is another story. I had never thought such a huge watch would be wearable. To my surprise, it is quite comfortable if I set aside its weight for a moment. The build quality is exceptional; it looks exactly like a well-built instrument. I replaced the ceramic shroud with a black titanium one, which gives it a sharper profile and sheds some weight.

[SSK001] Miltat yay or nay?

Recently swapped the OEM bracelet with a Miltat endmill. What do we think? It feels a lot better and doesn’t sound nearly as cheap.
