Caught my first California Golden Trout yesterday in a super tiny stream down the street from my house in Mammoth Lakes. Pretty sure it’s hybridized with a rainbow, but anyone smart enough to tell me if it is for sure? Found a backcountry fishing guide from 2012 that said there were goldens only in this stream and I found that hard to believe because most of the places near me with Goldens are mandatory hike outs to.
Today I lost an absolute freak of a brown trout. It's a small stream, 10-20 feet wide but known for good size fish. There is also downed trees and cover everywhere. 17" is a very standard catch there. I had good size tippet on (1x/11lb) but this fish just flew around a submerged tree and broke me off. I feel very confident in saying this fish was larger than 2 feet long, it was shocking when it thrashed on the surface
Whats your "one that got away" story?

Live local to a blue ribbon fishery (C&R only), and nearly everyone fly fishes it. Would it be worth while to drop traditional spin gear for a fly fishing setup? I mostly throw flies on spin gear anyways, but find it’s a little bit hard to get the presentation just right.
I believe it’s a tiger trout from the patter at the top but I’m not sure.
I am very confused by all the different meanings of jig. What are all of them?
But real talk, I once caught a searun Cutthroat that was 22.5” back about ~15 years ago. What’s your PB cutthroat?
I've only ever caught stocked trout before which i've put a photo of, as a complete begginer what do i need to know?
About a month into starting fishing.
Caught on the Poudre
First dinner trout at my new house on the snake river. Pic taken AFTER quickly dispatching the fish.
Wish I would have measured/weighed this. How does one determine if a trout is stocked or wild?
Was talking with someone last night about a dark colored trout I had recently caught. Reminded me of one I caught years ago as well. The one from years ago is the brook trout, I noticed it was a very dark color. This trout lived under a bridge in an irrigation ditch that gets very hot. I presumed to stay out of the heat.
The second is a golden trout I caught a few weeks ago. Does anyone know why they are so much darker than what you normally see? I’ll attach a picture of another golden I caught that day for comparison.
