Hating the M5610U, don’t get the hype at all.

So I wore a gbd800 (green, totally unreadable screen) and a dw9052 (blue yellow) for years, but felt like a change and, due to the hype, decided to get the M5610u - I debated the new MIP version but prefer LCD to be honest.

Anyway, after having worn it for a few days I’ve made the following observations;

  1. The compact dimensions and surprising thinness were a shock. With my DW9052 I’m used to doing Zoolander style turns (mostly Magnum, occasionally Blue Steel) turns through doorways and such to avoid catching it on things. I resent not having to do this anymore. I also resent the way it fits surprisingly well under shirt sleeves and jumpers meaning I often have to physically move my shirt out of the way to read the time like it’s the 17th century or something.
  2. The styling - the compact dimensions, lovely subtle styling, colour choices and dimensions go with everything and mean I can wear it with almost anything, even in the office. I resent not panicking about watch choice and colours and suitability.
  3. Time keeping. Having owned various automatics and vintage watches over the years, part of the fun of owning a watch is the constant stress of knowing the time is wrong and having to adjust it constantly while wondering what the point of owning a watch that fails at its core function of telling the time really is. The m5610u appears to be correct all the time. This is boring.
  4. The backlight - part of the fun of owning a watch is the stress of trying to read the time at night. This watch removes that stress which I resent. EVEN WORSE - it constantly has the habit of switching the backlight on BY ITSELF when I read it at night, removing the fun of trying to find the button for the light. I resent that.
  5. The battery. Part of the fun of owning a watch is stressing about battery life, then the inevitable fun of trying to change the battery yourself, breaking some really delicate piece of plastic, damaging a gasket, scratching the case back, and then having a nagging feeling that if you even splash water on it, it will now explode as you haven’t put the case back back on properly. From what I understand, this thing could run for a couple of decades before requiring attention. Where’s the fun in that? Ridiculous.

So in summary - great looks, great size, great timekeeping, great battery, long supply of parts (so there’s no point even “breaking it accidentally” cos I can just repair it), bombproof, easy to live with.

I know I can take this watch off and, provided I don’t leave it in full darkness, could come back to it in three or four or five years and it’ll still be running and the time will be perfect. And due to the timeless styling it’ll look as good then as it does now. I hope someone at Casio got fired for that blunder.

Seriously what is the point of this watch? I own several watches and this is all I’ve worn for the last week. Because it’s so easy. I resent that.

Black Full Metal (GMW-B5000GD)

Love this full metal, bit more subtle than the silver, and the STN display works great!

Flea market G-Steel

Hello there,

I recently picked up this watch at the flea market, the seller told me the watch wasn't used for about a year, so I knew the battery would be dead or it needs a solar charge. I took a risk and I bought it.

He did mention that he swapped the battery so I assumed he did put the wrong type, the battery he ended up taking off is the Panasonic CTL920F and I'm not sure which one he put in there instead.

When I put the watch in the sun, I see the digital screen flashing CHG, but nothing else works. After an hour under the sun, the screen went completely blank and stopped flashing.

I really hope I can get some help to fix this watch, so please if anybody knows what's wrong let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Joined the team

Like most say on this thread, I wanted to get away from a smart watch with the constant notifications. Being a school counselor it was nice to get the texts I could glance at if I was meeting with a student or if staff needed me. After my first full day with this on my wrist yesterday, I realized I was off my phone a lot of the day. Being more present and “off the grid” felt really nice.

First G shock

The first G shock but 3rd Casio. I grew up with the A168-vg I enjoy the three eye function and it’s built like a tank. I’m a skateboarder so I will take it through the test!

Hey! Always wear your watch on the same wrist, or do you switch it?

Genuine question because I’ve noticed people seem surprisingly opinionated about this.

I’ve always heard that you should wear your watch on your non-dominant wrist, but I know people who switch wrists depending on what they’re doing, comfort, injury, or even just because a particular watch looks better on one side.

Do you always keep it on the same wrist, or do you swap it around?
