OAD + HCOL Area + What the future holds
My husband and I have a 3 year old son and live in a VHCOL area (south Florida). The traffic and type of people down here can be annoying but there’s a ton to do, it’s never cold and most of our family lives here.
We are currently renting a townhouse and I don’t think we can afford to buy a house down here. Housing costs exploded here post-COVID. I’m tired of overpaying for rent, my son not having a backyard, etc but the thought of moving my only away from all his family makes me sad. I feel like I would be more open to the idea if he had a sibling at least.
The options seem to be: Stay but possibly be renting and overpaying forever with no real backyard or land of our own OR move away from family to a chapear town with less to do but be able to buy a house he can run around in.
Just wondering if any other OAD parents here are facing these types of decisions and what you’re planning to do.
