Canon ImagePrograf PRO-1100

YO!  FYI Everybody!  I just found out this fun fact the hard way.....Canon ImagePROGRAF Pro-1100 printers are REGION locked to the place where you bought them! The specific problem that I just ran into is if you try to install ink cartridges from the U.S. into a PRO-1100 printer purchased in Europe, then the printer throws a print error code (U140) and refuse to print. PLEASE check that you're ordering ink tanks from the region that you purchased your printer from.  There are specific codes and labeling on the ink tanks that indicate exactly what printer ink cartridge you have, or received when you ordered.  Basically, if the ink tanks you're using don't match the rear spec plate on the back of your printer, then you're hosed. It's not the end of the world, but these tanks from Europe (54GBP = 72.56USD!) cost a LOT more than the tanks from Amazon in the U.S. (51.36USD) the last time I checked.

Another fun fact.  You can't register your new printer purchased outside the U.S. on the Canon USA website.  You can only register on the website of the country/region that you purchased the printer in.  AND, should you ever move back to the U.S.,  Canon USA does does not maintain, or guarantee the warranty of the printer purchased overseas.  I contacted Canon and they also pointed out that a LOT of people purchasing printers they found as a "great deal" (online/swap meet wherever!) are discovering this problem the REALLY hard way. Online dealers are getting their hands on whole shipments from other countries/regions and putting them online for sale at too-good-to-be-true prices. The rub is: they're locked to regions from all over the globe and as soon as you need something as simple as ink, or as major as maintenance, then you find out that you're screwed. So, only buy from reputable Canon distributors, or make sure that you're buying from within the region that you permanently reside in.
