So I (20m) am currently working a pretty dead end job (cashier at a grocery store) with the intention of beggining the path to becoming a firefighter in mid August. My initial plan was to keep working at this dead end but steady job and save money untill I start school in August. In the few recent weeks I’ve received a job opportunity to get flown out to Hawaii for the months of late may through early August (flight and housing paid for) but the job is sales and not guaranteed income. I’ve got a few friends doing it and they’re making decent money but I’m not fully convinced that it would be a great decision from my practical side of thought. The cons to me going out there is I’d have to quit the job I have now (for context I make about 17hr and work around 35-38hrs a week).
Also I a key factor in this, I bought a truck in September 2025 when I was working at a job I thought I’d make more money at which didn’t end up happening. Since then I quit that job and am working at my current one but every paycheck essentially goes to the truck. I’ve needed to sell the truck regardless so I was already planning on doing so to pay off my debts. But if I do this before Hawaii I’ll have no debts but also no vehicle whe I get back.
I apologize if this is confusing in any way I know my wording wasn’t the best but I’d be happy to clear anything up or provide more information in response to comments. Overall just any advice on how I should proceed would be very appreciated.
