💎 or 🗑

💎 - I was expecting more from this film. I think I was waiting for the rat to turn into a monster or our leading man to become a rat monster. I don't know, something crazy but it just didn't happen. It was literally a man vs a psychotic Stuart Little. Still fun but felt myself getting bored as it got towards the hour mark as they were just throwing in work scenes to pad the runtime. I might give it a rewatch, that is the only reason why it falls more into 💎 than 🗑.

The First Deadly Sin (1980) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎 - It's a decent Detective film if that is what you're into. It almost feels like a movie from the 1930s, not the 1980s and needed to be in black and white. It is nearly a two hour film and doesn't drag like I thought it would but still probably could have been cut by twenty minutes. Also felt like it was a TV movie that was going to become a series due to its quirky side characters.

Hell's Trap (1989) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎💎💎 - Fun characters, a creepy villain and a forest location. What more could you want? I wasn't entirely sure about the rivalry between Nacho and Mauricio but it didn't really matter because the rivalry storyline goes out the window as soon as the killer shows up. Crack House (1989) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

🗑 - It's not a bad film. It's just boring. The first hour is just the lead actress making bad decisions after her partner gets arrested. It finally gets good at the hour mark when Jim Brown as the lead villain enters the scene. Had he appeared earlier, it probably would have been great. I think audiences who are fans of gang-related films might enjoy this one. It just wasn't for me.

Curfew (1989) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎 - I liked it. It was a little jarring at times with its tone. At one point, the villains are played as terrifying and then the next, they are bumbling idiots. It shifts into horror and comedy and doesn't know what it wants to be. But it is a nice 85 minutes that goes by pretty quick, had a decent body count and the performances are good.

Lady in White (1988) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎💎💎💎 - This was hauntingly beautiful and so bloody sad. I went into this movie thinking it might have been a kids movie as it kind of started that way but lordy, it wasn't. Very much adult themes throughout and some rather gasp worthy moments. The killer is easy to guess but that doesn't make it any less scary when it is revealed. I watched the pre-release Director's Cut. I am intrigued what was cut so will watch the two other versions.

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

🗑🗑🗑 - I'm not a fan of watching sexual violence on film and there was A LOT of it in this movie. Too much for me. Which is a shame because the story, as batshit crazy as it was, interested me. But due to what happens, I don't really have any desire to revisit this one.

💎💎💎 - This was a fun flick. A bit slow to start but it picks up speed once it gets going and the main four characters are pretty likeable. You actually feel for them, especially the two that change and there's a number of creative kills all the way through to its satisfying ending.

Island of Blood/Whodunit (1982) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

🗑🗑 - I do enjoy a slasher but this one was a bit of a miss. I feel they were attempting something meta but failed in executing it. The cassette song where the victim dies to whatever the word is playing on the song is a cool concept. It was the script that makes this film fall a part. I couldn't tell if the actors were improvising lines or if it was the dialogue but the amount of times per scene where a character says something that makes no sense with different emotions was crazy. For example, the guitar playing character goes from hippie to violent man to Crazy Ralph all in the space of ten minutes. The start also drags. Last thirty minutes were solid and the kills were decent.

__________________________________________

🤔 Random Thoughts While Watching:

1. Whoa, that shot took her head clean off. 🫠

2. Time to meet our future victims. 🤼‍♂️

3. Where did they find this bunch of people? 😂

4. Okay it's everybody's first film. That makes sense. 👌

5. I thought the girl with the crutches was just finding a room. She's been here all of 5 minutes and is already sleeping with the male cast. 😐

6. Donna, it's time to run back upstairs. 🏃‍♀️

7. The guitar player is annoying. 🎸

8. Little close with that knife, Bert. 🔪

9. The giant pool of boiling water... how? 🤨

10. I hope he wasn't a lead role in this film. 🫣

11. These women really want to sleep with this one man. 😉

12. Did that boat just explode? 💥

13. None of these idiots are staying in their rooms. 😮‍💨

14. Failing to blow out the candle was hilarious. 🕯

15. Lyn staying by herself in the classroom. 🤦‍♀️

16. Making a raft with six pieces of wood... 🪵

17. Wouldn't you just run away as soon as you hear the music. Why do these people walk towards it. 🙃

Night School (1981) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎💎💎💎 - This was good slasher fun. Honestly, the soup scene gets a 💎 all on its own. I thought we were going to have a slasher film take place at a night school but it really has not much to do with a night school besides the students and teachers that are targeted. Most of the film takes place in restaurants and apartments. Pretty good performances, decent kills although a lot is done offscreen and is left to the imagination but its put together well.

__________________________________________

🤔 Random Thoughts While Watching:

1. There is no reason for Miss Barron to be spinning on that carousel at night besides to get killed. 😅

Island of the Fishmen - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎💎💎 - This is more adventure fantasy than horror so go into it with that mindset and you'll have a great time. It is batshit crazy though how much they try to fit in this film. I honestly thought we were just going to get fishmen hunting people but we get voodoo, science experiments, treasure hunts, campy villains. It is ridiculous and stupid but in the best way.

🤔 Random Thoughts While Watching:

1. These men have seen better days. 😵‍💫

2. There will either be eaten by the fishmen or become the fishmen. That's my guess. 😉

3. That water looks contaminated...💧

4. Not the flamingo! 🫣

5. This island is chaos. 😅

6. Amanda is stunning!!! 😍

7. Sassy Shakira is also stunning. Damn it, the whole cast is. 🕺💃

5. Peter tried to kill the Lieutenant, yet he is still tagging along with them? 🤨

6. Besides the fishmen and an active volcano, this island would be quite a nice place to live. 🏝

7. Aww well that's a bit cute. She feeds them. 🥰

8. The Fishmen really need to kill Peter already. 😒

9. Apparently Edmond and his men can teleport. ✨️

10. Makauley Culkin has been through this forest. 🗡

11. Edmond is such a campy villain and I love him for it. 😈

12. This exposition under the sea is madness. 🌊

13. Shakira's prediction is bleak. 😐

14. Josè looks great! 🐡

15. Edmond, you've gone a little bit too far there. 😶

16. The floor is lava!!! 🔥

17. Claude is one lucky man to have survived ao much carnage. 😑

18. Ten minutes ago, you said you couldn't control them anymore Amanda. I call bullshit on this ending. 🙄

Demon Witch Child (1975) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎💎 - The weaker of the three in the boxset but still great. The actress, who played Susan, the demon witch child basically carried this whole project. She was amazing and after watching, I found out she did the Spanish dub of Linda Blair in The Exorcist and that is why she was cast in this film. Makes so much sense because this is basically a Spanish version of it. So happy I got this boxset. Three amazing hidden gems. Well done Vinegar Syndrome!

🤔 Random Thoughts While Watching:

1. So much evidence and no one believes the priest about the evil. 😈

2. Truth Serum. Well played chief. 😎

3. Well then... that backfired. 😐

4. Ghost witch!!! 👻

5. Oh no. Poor little one. 👶

6. There's definirely not enough blood for all those women. 😅

7. Odd thing to cry about. At least it wasn't another woman. 🤷

8. Spit at me and I, too, would stab that needle down hard. 💉

9. Someone needs to call an exorcism on this young girl. 👧

10. La la la la la la la la la 🎶

11. It's crazy how many people still believe Susan ain't evil. 😒

12. Susan used Razor Leaf! 🍃

13. I guess you failed priest... 😔

Curse of the Devil (1973) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎💎 - The opening scenes with Elizabeth Bathory were solid and I would have liked if we had continued with her. I am a fan of 1940s The Wolfman and I can see where a lot of the inspiration came from, especially the werewolf design. A lot of kills, some interesting plot choices and decent performances. Not as good as the other film in this boxset but still a great. I look forward to watching the final film.

  4. Guess someone murdered her anyway... 😶

  5. Maria is thirsty for Waldemar. 💧

  6. Maria pretending to be her sister to seduce Waldemar is crazy... and seems to be working. 🫣

  7. Well now this is awkward. 😅

  8. Not the theatre people!!! 🎭

  9. How many more full moons can there be? 🌕

  10. She got pregnant very quickly. 👶

  11. Casually wiping out her entire family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

The Vampire Night Orgy (1973) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎💎💎 - The title may mislead people but it's a great watch. I felt creeped out in a number of scenes and the pacing was rather quick. I was closed to giving it another 💎 but certain things stood out that I found did not work. I don't think the cannibalism or the Major character should have been in this film. I think The Lady should have been in those scenes instead and given her more to do. She almost felt like an afterthought, which is a shame because she was so great. Regardless, I recommend this film and look forward to watching the others in this set.

🤔 Random Thoughts While Watching:

  1. Oh no, not the bus driver! 😢

  2. That kid is creepy. Violeta, run away! 🏃‍♀️

  3. A town that isn't on the map. I'm sure no one will be killed. 😎

  4. That hole in the painting is massive. How is she not seeing him? 👁

  5. Oh that's creepy... 🫣

  6. Ernesto has seen better days. 🧛‍♂️

  7. The Lady is keen on Cèsar. 😏

  8. Off the balcony he goes. 🤕

  9. Is Luis perving on Alma meant to be charming? 😐

  10. Is this giant about to hunt a little girl? 👧

  11. Getting locked in a cemetery would not be fun. 😶‍🌫️

  12. I don't think the kid meant to do that... 😨

The Hand of Night (1968) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

🗑🗑🗑 - Interesting premise but there's not really much that happens. After a third of the way through, it just begins to drag and lose momentum. I like the dream-like fantasy sequences but otherwise, there's not much here and I found myself fighting to stay awake.

__________________________________________

🤔 Random Thoughts While Watching:

  1. These opening credits are rather colourful. 🌈

  2. That dream sequence was crazy. 🤪

  3. The classic bat on a string. 🦇

  4. Marissa is stunning!!! 💃

  5. Chantal is very forward with her questioning. Pull it back a bit Chantal. 😬

  6. Get that ring back on your finger! 💍

  7. Chantal probing some more. 🙄

  8. I know they say vampire but I am getting more ghost vibes. 👻

  9. Wait, is Chantal meant to be a love interest? ❤️

  10. If she is, I am getting no chemistry whatsoever. 💔

  11. This beach montage is weird. ⛱️

  12. Paul continuously running away from Chantal is pretty funny. 😂

  13. So they are in the tombs. 🤨

The Playgirls And The Vampire (1960) - Thoughts and Rating

Rating Out of 5:

💎 or 🗑

💎💎 - It's pretty tame for vampire flicks of this era, especially when you had Hammer Horror starting up a few years before this. It needed a higher body count. They introduced so many people and barely anyone dies. I am a sucker for vampire flicks though and I still had fun with this Italian film.

🤔 Random Thoughts While Watching:

  1. When someone tells you that no one takes that road for all the money in the world and it leads you to a castle, what makes you think it's a good idea? 🚌

  2. These people got so many warnings and still entered the castle. 🏰

  3. Now don't leave your rooms... we all know they will. 😅

  4. If a heard a kitten meowing, I honestly would follow the noises too so I am no better... 🐈

  5. Well its daylight. Time to leave. 🏃‍♀️

  6. After one death, I think going to the bridge they say is flooded just to make sure is better than staying another night. 💁‍♂️

  7. Is burying your friend at a castle normal? 🤨

  8. And a strip show? 👙

  9. Gabor and Vera don't waste any time. 💋

  10. Vera, Gabor is not making sense. Run away from him. 🧐

  11. I enjoy Katia's new, sassy self. 😎

  12. Vera, once again, he told you to stay in your room. 😒

  13. Katia is pissssssed 😡

  14. Some classic stunt fighting with yourself. 🥊

  15. At least the other girls stayed in their rooms and weren't stupid like Vera. 🧠

  16. Gabor is not coming to look for you Vera after he sells that castle. He's a player. 😈
