Just had surgery

On Tuesday, I had surgery to remove my ganglion cyst located on the inside of my left wrist. I’m not sure if I missed something during the discussion of the procedure, but I will need to be in a soft cast until June 1 which I wasn’t prepared for. I was told I’d be able to move my fingers and hand lightly after surgery, and they barely gave me any room to move my fingers.

For those of you who have gotten surgery, is this normal to be in a soft cast I’m so happy and thankful that it is gone and I was able to get the surgery. But man, I wasn’t expecting to only have one arm / hand for the next two weeks.

Here are my clinical notes from my doctor.

“The surgeon carefully identified and protected the nearby blood vessels, then separated the cyst from the surrounding tissue. The cyst’s stalk was followed to its attachment within the wrist joint area and cut away from the ligament without damaging the ligament itself. Because the cyst was large and made up of multiple compartments, it was decompressed so it could be safely removed from around the blood vessels. After the cyst was removed, the attachment site was cauterized to destroy remaining cyst tissue and reduce the chance of recurrence.”

If you have gotten surgery for your ganglion cyst, what was your healing journey like?
