Mysterious Hallways and Doors - leading to impossible places

I will admit, that at the end of House of Leaves I was disappointed. I wanted it to be simpler than it was. I wanted there to be >!strange things inside that house, monsters and icky stuff and people dying.!<

But the core of it seems pretty basic right? A doorway, a hallway, a closet - leading to spaces that couldn't exist in the house and then exploring that mystery

Any recommendations like that? The other elements of HoL doesn't matter, it's that doorway that I'm craving right now.

Books that require effort: need to pay attention, write notes, and figure stuff out

Recently I've discovered what is called ergodic literature and I'm kind of in love. However, it seems a little hard to find.

What I loved about it was that I was taking notes and there was something to figure out. I'm not really interested in the typical detective story, as guessing who the murderer is is rarely work that requires much effort.

But other than that, I really am open to everything.

Trying to find an OneNote replacement is a nightmare. I feel like a grandmother. It's all markdown this and markdown that. I thought my needs were very basic. Buttons and table support. With the options to color them.

I know how to write bold and italic with markdown and that's the extent of my knowledge.

TriliamNext is what I've settled on, but not only is their table feature a little awkward if you want colors but it's a little reaching with my poor knowledge. (The Dosu AI is very helpful here, but it's still a headache every time I decide I want to do something new)

I feel like I've gone through all the big names that keep getting mentioned, and some of them are pretty advanced and feature heavy so it baffles my mind that a little toolbar isn't included. (and why no colors? who makes plain white tables??)

So yes, any lesser known ones? Is there a magic trick I've missed?

I have finally caved and made myself some emblems for cover view

And I made a column for read/unread, as well as one for ratings (and using emblems for any 5/5 books I read)

But.. how do I tag the books as that without going to the detailed view? I mean when it's a list I just doubleclick the area on the column and I get my options but surely there is a way to do this while in cover mode?
