Sunday afternoon on the RRTS: Is Namo Bharat giving us the "Airport Treatment" now?

Traveling via Namo Bharat this afternoon and I spotted this newspaper stand at the station.

It immediately reminded me of an airport lounge. I did a double-take—checked for a coin slot, a QR code, or a "Return to Rack" sign. Nothing. Just a stack of fresh Sunday editions waiting to be picked up.

What’s wild is that it’s already afternoon and the stack is still sitting there, mostly untouched. It made me think:

  1. The "Premium" Vibe: Does the clean, high-speed environment of the RRTS make us more disciplined? If this were a regular crowded spot, these would’ve been gone by 9 AM or used as floor mats.

  2. The Digital Shift: Even with a free Sunday paper (supplements and all!), everyone on the platform was still glued to their phones.

It’s a really nice touch by NCRTC. I ended up grabbing a copy for the ride—there’s something uniquely satisfying about reading a physical paper while zooming past traffic at 160 kmph.

Is this the new standard for Indian transit, or are we just not used to "free stuff" being left alone yet?
