Trying to get my first Chase card — keep getting denied for "insufficient credit history." What can I do? (21M, 739 score, currently abroad)

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on getting approved for a Chase credit card. I was denied 2 months ago trying to get the United Gateway card and the reason given was insufficient credit history, which I kind of understand — but I'm not sure it's the full picture.

Here's my current credit profile: 21 years old, credit score of 739. I have one older card that's about 3 years old, plus three Capital One cards and one American Airlines card (that one is under my dad's name, but I'm an authorized user on it and it shows up on my credit). I pay all my balances in full every month. I'm also under Chase's 5/24 rule, so that shouldn't be the issue.

The tricky part: I'm not currently in the US, so I can't walk into a branch. Chase suggested I open a checking account first as a way to build a relationship with them — but when I try to do it online, it won't let me either. So I'm stuck on both fronts: can't open a checking account, can't get approved for a card.

Has anyone dealt with this? Is there anything I can do while abroad to start building a relationship with Chase, or is it basically a waiting game until I'm back in the US? Any advice on what might actually move the needle here would be really appreciated.
