If i spend ~$4060 a year on groceries/dining, I break even with Amex Gold, right?

My understanding is each dollar spent on dining/grocery is 4 points with the multiplier. Each point is worth as an estimated average $.02 in miles/rewards etc.

So doing the math for every $12.5 spent on dining, I get $1 in rewards. So I just need to spend $4062.5 every year (~$340/mo) on dining to break even and get $325 in rewards, right?

Should I get AMEX GOLD card or something else.

Trying to decide if I should get the Amex Gold Card. The $325 annual fee is giving me pause.

I am looking to get my first grown up credit card, do you get enough out of the card for the $325 AF to be worth it? I got a new job and want to start utilizing a good credit card is this the way to go or should i look somewhere else?

What cash back card? Not thrilled with Amex

I own a small construction company, spend about 100-200k a year on my card.

Currently have an Amex gold. Not overly thrilled with the rewards I get from it.

Looking at a high% cash back card. Most mosey is spent on fuel, hardware store etc.

What card would yall recommend?

How is this combo? What cards should I consider?

Im a third-year college student. Rn, I have the AMEX BCP, Citi DoubleCash, SYW 5321, and Delta Blue SkyMiles card.

AMEX BCP is my main card. I'll be using it for groceries and occasional dining out. Since it earns 6% cash back it helps me save up for stuff I want to buy, like camera lenses and such. I am playing the BCE/BCP upgrade/downgrade cycle, and if this works i will get away with $0AF. If not then ill just downgrade to BCE.

Citi DoubleCash, since it gives 2% cash back on every purchase (and bill payment) I'll be slapping my utility and Healthcare bills on it.

SYW5321 is my gas/Costco card. I earn 5% on gas and is one of the only cards I can use at Costco. I think it should earn 3% if I go to Costco due to the 3% grocery cash back limit.

Delta Blue used to be the Gold card. I downgraded before the $95 AF fee hit, and I will be using it to buy some gadgets I like due to the 1 year purchase protection guarantee it has, and is one of the only AMEX cards to offer it while having $0 AF.

Is this a good stack? What else should I consider?

Card to improve credit score and earn rewards (if possible)

I do not currently have any credit cards, and have not for about 10 years or so because I have been living outside the US. I moved back a few months ago with my husband, who is European, and we have a joint checking account with a local credit union. Being new to the US he has no credit history, and my credit score has fallen into the “fair” range because I have no credit accounts or loans currently (I do have a good repayment history from previous loans and credit accounts).

I’d like to get a card that can help me build my score back up, and add my husband as an authorized user to help him build credit. We don’t need to make any large purchases and plan to keep the balance paid off and ideally earn even a little bit of cash back or rewards in the process. We do travel to and from Europe once or twice a year, but don’t use hotels or have a preferred airline so I’m not sure if travel rewards would be useful for us or not. We can get a no fee, low interest rate credit card through our credit union, but it doesn’t come with rewards of any kind and since we’re planning to keep the balance paid off the low interest rate isn’t necessarily too important.

Thank you so much for your guidance!

Is it worth transferring 300k UR points to Hyatt before the new 4:3 change?

I currently have 300k UR points and plan to cancel my CSP in September because I am exclusively using the Bilt Palladium for rent and everyday spend. I am not sure what else to do with the 300k UR points and Hyatt is really the only thing I’ve been using it for. I also have 200k in Bilt points so can use that for flights.

Unsure if Venture X is right for me

Quick summary: I've been more recently getting involved with the credit card game to try and maximize (within reason) some rewards. I was mostly using the USAA rewards visa and WF autograph cards since I had those for many years, but after seeing my friend churn credit cards, decided to start trying to explore rewards a bit more. I got the CSP after my friend recommended it for travel, but then got the USBAR (pre-nerf) which was perfect for me as everywhere here used tap-to-pay and I was mostly an economy seat traveler with a partner so the 8 PP lounges were enough for us. Now the USBAR has been nerfed, I held onto it to give it a year to see if anything would happen to it. Needless to say, it hasn't, and I got the RH gold card to essentially replace it. I've been using the flat 3% to get money back and put it all in investments for right now to watch it grow. However, I'm considering closing the USBAR come November/December time and was considering getting the Venture X as a potential replacement.

For me, I travel with a P2 and take about 1-2 international trips per year (mostly to Asia but will be doing Europe this year), rarely domestic travel. My main thought is to mostly do cash back but get a travel card for the benefits for the 1-2 trips we take per year. Usually try to pick whatever flight is convenient + affordable. Hotels: mostly stay with whatever is reasonably priced and conveniently located (hence why the USBAR was perfect for me at the time since I got that flexibility lol). I don't mind booking hotels through a portal (a bit iffier on flights in case something goes wrong). I know the Venture X more or less pays for itself if I travel once per year, but given I'm not sure I would be able to get >1.5 CPP, not entirely sure if it really outperforms the shittier USBAR for me at the moment, especially with having to pay for my P2 to get into a lounge (we can live without the lounges). Closest major airport to me is LAX. I work in the medical field so at least right now, don't have a lot of flexibility with travel dates at the moment, although that may change in the future.

Just wanted to get some thoughts about whether or not Venture X would be of benefit for me. My main goal is to help negative some cost of traveling cause I just value convenience for vacation above all else

Chase Sapphire Preferred SUB

I would like to apply for the CSP, for the 100K SUB. I had the CSP before (almost 5 years back), but since then have downgraded it.

I know there was a rule of 48 months wait before being eligible for a SUB. But I have not kept up with the new Chase rules.

Would I still be eligible for this SUB?

Does anyone actually verify restaurant charges after they post?

This happened to me recently and made me realize I don’t really have a good system.

At a lot of restaurants, the pending charge isn’t the final amount. A day or two later, it updates after the tip is added.

The problem is… by then I’ve usually thrown away the receipt.

If the posted amount ended up being a few dollars higher than I intended, I’m not sure I’d even notice unless it was something obvious.

So now I’m curious what everyone else does.

  • Do you keep the paper receipt until the charge posts?
  • Take a photo of every receipt?
  • Compare it against your credit card statement?
  • Or do you just trust that it’s correct?

I’ve seen stories about accidental double tipping, automatic gratuity, service charges, and even the occasional tip adjustment. I know those aren’t common, but it made me wonder if I’m the weird one for wanting to verify the final amount.

What’s your routine?

Amazon Prime membership and Chase Prime Visa credit card

I haven't used Amazon very much over the past few years. Sometimes I do place an order, it's usually over the free shipping minimum, so I don't need a Prime membership for free shipping.

Occasionally, when I want to buy a small, inexpensive item, Amazon offers me a one-week Prime trial (sometimes for $0.99). Instead of paying a few dollars for shipping, I activate the one-week Prime trial. I've taken advantage of this offer several times, and while the trial is active, I also earn 5% cash back with my Chase Prime Visa card.

I'm thinking about closing some relatively inactive credit cards, including my Chase Prime Visa card (which only earns 3% back on Amazon purchases when I don't have Prime membership). If I close the Chase Prime Visa (yes, Chase sometimes do not send a new card, they just change reward % on the card), can I still earn 5% back during those occasional one-week Prime trial periods while using another credit card?

Right now, there is also an offer of $.99 for one week trial, although I am not young adult or student, but Amazon does not care to verify. I can just activate one week of prime trial for $0.99

We're giving you a

7-day trial for only $0.99

They say credit card company’s will close your account for non usage. How long is that usually 6 months to a year or longer?

And is it bad to underutilize a card like only using $100 out of $1500?

I’m sure they want us to use waaaay more

Citi Strate Elite Blacklane Credit: Credit activated on ride date NOT reservation date

https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/s/BURyFu2O6a

Contrary to what this person experienced I had the opposite happen to me just now.

I reserved for a trip in June 2026 with my credit back in Dec 2025. This means I intended to use my 2nd half-year $100 credit for 2026.

I was waitng for credit to post after my ride a few weeks ago in June '26 however it credits my Jan-Jun 2026 credit and not the 2nd July-Dec 2025 credit.

I asked Citi support for the reason and they said its by trip date not reservation. Blacklane's response also supports this.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any idea when/if USB is planning on adding transfer partners?

I have 56k in points sitting in my US Bank AC account for 3 years now. I was planning on cashing out last year, but then I read the rumors of USB adding transfer partners 1Q this year. That obviously didnt happen.

I am just thinking of cashing it out into my bank and calling it a day if USB is not planning on adding partners soon.

Alaska Credit Cards: Are they worth it for me?

Hi! I live in Seattle and fly to Hawaii 1-2x per year with a friend. I fly to Vegas/California maybe 7x per year (both solo and with a friend).

I do usually have at least one checked bag, but will book first if it is only 100-200 more per leg.

I'm trying to increase my comfort, so I don't want to do inconvenient stuff to try to get perks (red eye flights, weird days, etc). Also, Alaska lounges would be at best a fallback for me.

I'm not sure I understand and can pencil out the perks. For example, the flight I am looking at one way from Hawaii would be 96k points. So, the 25k "companion" points don't seem that valuable since I wouldn't even have the extra needed to actually buy the companion ticket? Thoughts? Thank you!

Do Credit Cards Require Any Montly Fee or Consequences For Not Using It (England)

This is coming from someone who has never had a credit card and knows next to nothing about them

So this probably not something usually on here but pretty much I've got zero interest in actually using a Credit Card. Never looked into it and have got no idea what things like "Credit score" or whatever even means

I want to get a Credit card but the one and only reason I want it is to get passed something

For those who don't know there's a gaming platform/application called Steam. And of course it had Online Safely Act restrictions for some mature games the only way to get past it is to add a credit card to your payment options

This is literally all I want it for. I want to spend on my debut and only my debit and never my credit card

Would this be easily doable? Could I get my credit card frozen if I don't use it or need to pay any fees or anything?

My CCR card bonus offers 6% back for the year. The CCR with online category does cover a lot of things for me- Amazon / online orders, fast food, gas, and Sam’s (with Scan & Go). I love how versatile this card is, but 2% on grocery is not the best and I don’t want to rely on just one card. I am looking for a dedicated grocery card, with gas and/or dining as a plus.

Walmart / Paypal debit card / CCR / BCE

I was trying to get approved for the Aven 6% grocery card but after sending my bank statements and linking my accounts to Plaid to them they still say they "can't verify my net worth" 🙄 Infuriating. Anyways, so I think I'm giving up on their nonsense and pivoting.

My goal is to get the best CB for Walmart (mostly grocery pickup and also Supercenter & Neighborhood Market stores) I wouldn't use their delivery service because you have to tip the drivers, which I understand, but it just makes their Plus membership cost even more in the long run.

So after reading about the PayPal debit card and the upcoming nerf for it, if I use it for Walmart and "cash out" rewards to an Amazon credit (if that will be available) is that even a good idea since I also have the Prime card? So I wouldn't get the 5% from the Prime card if I just used the credit. I need an adultier adult to figure this out for me please.

I currently have the Amex BCP that I use inside my Walmart Neighborhood Market for 6% and AAA Daily Advantage for other grocery stores for 5%. But I would prefer to be lazy and do Walmart grocery pickup. And I would like to get rid of the AF if possible so I was thinking about PC to BCE. Which I heard has 3% online and would work for Walmart grocery pickup?

The other option is the BoA CCR for the online shopping option.

Can you use Walmart Pay in store for the online 3% for CCR? What about for BCE?

My other cards are Chase Freedom Flex, 2 Citi CC for gas and dining, and a Quicksilver as my current catch-all of 1.5%. I used to have the Walmart 5% card and then they changed it to the Quicksilver. I used to have a Citi DC for 2% but PC to be able to have a 2nd CC instead.

Anyone familiar with MIDFLORIDA credit union? Accidentally applied for loan application

Hey everyone. Basically the title. I have an already existing loan with MIDFLORIDA credit union. I was trying to see how much they would offer to refinance my auto loan and I accidentally submitted an application under a personal loan which I did not want to do. It only showed a pre qualified interest rate. When I hit submit I was thinking it was going to show me the options and rates. I’m freaking out. I didn’t sign anything.
