Manual Gear Shifting Necessary?

We have 2023 Crew Cab. Turbo 6 cylinder. Leer shell. Double bike rack loaded with 2 heavy e-bikes. Loaded with suitcase and camping gear.

When on winding mountain roofs or anything where elevation changes even gradually, my partner gear shift constantly like a race car and usually uses gears 2-8 constantly. I get flung all over the place as passenger. It’s like a road race care experience for me.

Is this constant gear shifting necessary /recommended vs just staying in drive and using brakes and acceleration?
