if you have a pistol chassis is it illegal to also have the forward spare magazine attachment?

I’ve seen conflicting information about the best kind of firearm for home defense. Considering 9mm vs 223

I’ve seen some research saying 223 is less likely to over penetrate compared to 9mm, which would seem to indicate an AR15 is better than a pistol but it just doesn’t seem to make sense in my head lol anybody have any insight?
