I created a medieval themed fan redesign of Century: Spice Road

I’ve been working on a fan redesign of Century: Spice Road as a personal board game design project.

While I enjoy the original game, I wanted to experiment with a theme that felt more connected to building wealth and influence in a medieval kingdom.

In my version :
-Tumeric become money
-Saffron become land
-Cardanom become building
-Cinnamon become landmark

The gold and silver coins were replaced with Merchant seals and Royale seals.

The point cards were redesigned as medieval investments and properties that generate prestige and influence. I also redesigned the trading cards to better fit the new theme and economy.

My goal wasn’t to change the core mechanics that make Century work so well, but to explore how a completely different setting could change the feel of the game while keeping the same strategic decisions.

One thing I’d like to mention is that I tried to keep AI usage to a minimum. The only AI-generated elements are some of the medieval-themed illustrations. Everything else, including the card layouts, icons, component design, resource system, and overall visual presentation, was created and assembled by me in Canva.

I also wanted the project to feel like a real published game rather than just a digital mockup, so I handcrafted the physical components myself. The cards were printed and finished with a matte protective foil, I designed and built a custom game box, and I even created custom resource cups to better match the medieval theme.

I’d love to hear your honest thoughts
Does the medieval theme fit Century’s mechanics?
Do the resources and progression make thematic sense?
What would you change or improve?
If a game with this theme and production quality were available for purchase, would it be something you’d consider buying?

Any feedback is appreciated. This project was both a creative exercise and a way for me to learn more about board game design.
