Struggling to pick over 2 job offers
Hi everyone,
This week I was offered 2 different positions and I’ve been having a really hard time picking one, so I would appreciate some advice. For some background I’m 22, graduated last year and have CFA level 1 done. I recently quit a wealth management CSA position due to a toxic advisor. I was in the position for a little bit under 2 years and didn’t mind the work but felt like it was a dead end job unless I wanted to become an advisor (as of right now I don’t).
The 2 job offers I received are the following:
Another CSA role at another firm with 75k base and 26k from profit sharing and bonuses.
A relationship management associate role at a private institutional asset manager with a base of 85k, discretionary annual bonus, and “profit interests” that fully vest in 5 years.
My big issue that I keep running into is picking one that offers the most growth (i.e. money and title). The wealth management team I’d be supporting emphasizes that there’s a lot of growth on the team with additional revenue sharing and bonuses over time. They also said that there were promotions to more senior roles, but with what I’ve seen that’s usually 5 years.
The asset manager firm is in a growth phase right now and they said there would be no one else competing for more senior positions as they expand since I’d be the only one in that role until they need another person.
Honestly I’ve been going from one to the other and I don’t know which one to pick. I like both of them for different reasons. The main one attracting me to the wealth management firm is the higher initial pay. For the asset manager I like the thought of working for a small company and playing a part in their growth strategy. I also like the fact that it would be a hybrid position with a more casual dress code. I feel like there could be big payoffs if the asset manager really does grow significantly, but that’s not guaranteed.
Both firms have expressed significant interest in having me join them, with senior staff emailing me and reaching out saying they would answer any questions I had even on the weekend. And I really like the culture of both firms, so I can’t even base it off of that.
I would appreciate any advice as I’m stuck right now.
Thank you
