N5 - Altered Stock

N5 - Altered Stock

I sent 6 cards in and one of them came back as ‘N5 - Altered Stock’. I have 24 hours until they mail everything back to me. I’m not overly concerned about why it got an N5. My question for the group is:

  1. Can I still request that it get encapsulated as ‘Altered Authentic’ or is it too late? This was a value submission so I was not able to select a minimum grade at the time of submission.
  2. Can I sell this on eBay through PSA Vault? The button appears to be there (see pic) but I’ve never seen a card that’s not encapsulated for sale through the PSA store on eBay. I do want an encapsulated copy, so if I could sell this through PSA and have it listed clearly as N5 and have them take care of shipping, it probably would be the easiest/quickest option for me before I buy another one.

This is just for my personal collection, so I’d like to still get it encapsulated if possible and not have to resubmit it or sell it. Curious if any others have experienced this and can answer my questions.

Also - this is my second experience with getting a no grade, last time was an N3 from a card I had sent straight to grading after an eBay purchase. Feels like this is becoming more and more common and PSA doesn’t have any great process or explanation for why this happens and what the options are.

I bought this charizard on eBay for $650. I chose to have it sent straight to PSA for grading which cost an additional $85. It passed the authenticity check and proceeded to grading, but was flagged during assembly as being “No Grade (N3) – Evidence of Recoloration”. PSA reached out and acknowledged the recoloration should have been caught as part of the authenticity check and offered me the following options:

1. We can offer a full buyback of $650 plus a grading fee refund via check or COA

2. Return the card to you raw and offer $100 with a grading fee refund via check or COA

3. Encapsulate the card as "Authentic Altered" and receive a $100 promo code; no refund for the grading fee

Curious if this circumstance has happened to anyone else and what option you all think would be the best option?
