Designer reviews the new Ferrari Luce

Interesting designer review of the new Ferrari Luce. He calls out the elements that make it awkward and not in keeping with sports car design. I think he nails the key parts that don't work, including the lack of angles, the shape and height of the black elements, not bringing the body up at the C pillar and the missing wheel arches. He also wonders if the Ferrari design team deliberately didn't influence the design because it was outsourced.

What's your earworm song?

You know, that song that you hear or even just think about, and then keep humming against your will for days on end. Mine is currently 'Mambo No. 5' by Lou Bega. When it's not that it's usually the chorus to 'Hello' by Adele.

Finally got to sit in the new RAV4

I didn’t get to drive it but got to sit in it. First impressions weren’t great. This was a Euro spec car so different markets may vary. I think we get the worst RAV as it’s lower spec and FWD and down on power for the HEV.

The door handles are very light and feel flimsy. The seats are cloth and not very well padded at the back.

The interior lights are LED now but seem just as weak as the Gen5. The lining was black so maybe that made everything seem darker inside. No sunroof means the cabin is also darker.

The new layout of the centre buttons is worse than the Gen5 but I’m sure I’d get used to it. The screens are a lot better.

The exterior looks okay, better than the pictures. I’m sure it would grow on me.

The price starts at around €48k for the FWD which is steep for what it is (cloth seats!).

From a look on the Toyota website it seems they are only advertising PHEV but I think the one I saw was a HEV.

Interestingly I also saw a BZ Touring and I preferred it. It’s better insulated (less exterior noise when I shut the door than the RAV). The dash layout is better (incl. Lexus heating controls). The materials seem better quality and more soft touch. It’s bigger and more comfortable to sit in. And it’s €2k cheaper.

TLDR the Gen 5 is better in my market and if I was changing for something newer from Toyota I’d consider the BZ Touring before the new RAV.

Toyota makes the BZ Touring which is kind of in a similar space to the RAV4 and it got me wondering whether a RAV4 EV would appeal to people. Not as the only version, but if the range was HEV, PHEV and EV.

I was talking to someone recently and they said Laois and Offaly and I thought it included counties like Tipperary. And then I got to wondering would it be any county without a coastline. And then I asked Reddit.
