So that post yesterday about peace treaties in media got me thinking about times when things kind of go to shit. It's basically expected that with any plotline involving diplomacy or attempts to wind down a conflict, that someone or something is going to try and prevent it. What I'm curious about is the times where diplomatic efforts are fucked beyond belief, usually before the ink is even dry.
For me, the big one is Project Wingman (above), were you're the usual mute pilot with an inhuman tolerance for G-forces, fighting to help free a rebel nation from the grasp of the Federation.
>!In the final act; after a war that involves someone setting every volcano in the ring of fire off, killing millions of people, a hesitant ceasefire is negotiated by both sides who are just beaten and bloody by that point. The Federation tries to stop banging their head against the wall, save what's left of their army, and come back to conquer them later with a different plan. This reasonable decision is upended less than a minute after the radio announces said ceasefire, when their top pilot, decides the morally correct thing to do is ignore his orders and nuke the Capital City both sides were just fighting over. We go from, "The war is over, everyone stand down," to, "97% of both sides are dead, the Capital is a lake of lava, time for the final boss." Despite said pilot going rouge, the Federation is left dealing with the aftermath of appearing to have nuked the capital city of the nation they just signed a peace deal with, leading to several other states deciding to rebel as well.!<
