Replacing the MIB unit with aftermarket stereo?

I can’t find any info specific to the eGolf. I have the 2016 SE with MIB2. I want to install an aftermarket stereo unit. Can I replace the MIB 2 brain unit and plug straight into stereo via harness? Or do I have to keep the brain unit to prevent the car being unhappy and throwing codes and stuff? I’m aware I may lose data, but it’s data that I really wasnt using and I plan to retain some data via obdeleven and maestro idatalink, which I have both.

TLDR: eGolf suspension easier to swap out than ICE Golfs are known for what i expected it to be like based on ICE Golf info online.

Suspension replacement and upgrades are abundant in the Golf world, but not much info online specifically for the eGolf. They share the same platform, but there are some key differences that makes the experience different.

Things I replaced with premium or “performance” parts:

Bilstein B8 shocks all around with shorter bump stops

H&R sport springs

Lower control arms

Rear sway bar

Front and rear serviceable/greasable sway end links

I replaced the front ball joints, but with Lemfordt factory parts.

I also added wheel spacers and a lug stud conversion, which are just cosmetic and quality of life mods.

I must say, even though it took me a couple of days, it was nowhere near as challenging as the ICE version mk7 Golf’s are known to be.

For the lower control arm swap, many ICE Golf owners say that it’s the hardest LCA job they’ve ever done on a car. Partially bc you either have to drop the subframe or force the motor/transaxle to swing forward on the mounts just to clear and remove one of the LCA bushing bolts. I was pleasantly surprised that the eGolf did NOT have this problem. There was so much space in front of the bolt. It came out with ease.

Removing the struts on the Mk7 is notoriously challenging, and requires removing the axle bolts or using the famous “2x4 hack” to pull the knuckle away from the strut. I had my 2x4 ready and was mentally preparing to try the hack. I did not realize that with the LCAs removed, the knuckle had all the room and no issues sliding away from the bottom of the strut.

The final kicker was it was so strange working on a car with an under body with so little grease! Granted my hands were still filthy from accrued road dirt and brake dust. So hopefully this serves as encouragement for anyone thinking about suspension work on the eGolf but are hesitant.
