Should I get this 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf SE?

I found this 2016 e-Golf near me with 40,000 miles on it. They're charging $5,000 so I'm feeling a bit suspicious. There's no accidents with it that I can find. Is this a good deal? And is there anything about these cars that should concern me?

Replacing the MIB unit with aftermarket stereo?

I can’t find any info specific to the eGolf. I have the 2016 SE with MIB2. I want to install an aftermarket stereo unit. Can I replace the MIB 2 brain unit and plug straight into stereo via harness? Or do I have to keep the brain unit to prevent the car being unhappy and throwing codes and stuff? I’m aware I may lose data, but it’s data that I really wasnt using and I plan to retain some data via obdeleven and maestro idatalink, which I have both.

Selling my eGolf (east coast)

A sad day, but I must sell my beloved eGolf.

Located near Boston, MA but I’ll deliver as far as NYC since I’m making trips there frequently.

2019 SEL premium in Atlantic blue with black interior. 45k miles (and counting! I’m driving it a lot right now)
Wheels and tires are stock riding on standard ecopias with about 20k miles left on them? I’ll see about getting tread depth.

Has 3 blemishes (scratch and two small dents) on the sides

Has the HELIX subwoofer installed already😎
VW Crossbars installed on top
Side skirts and front lip
EGolf all weather mats and rear truck liner and car net.

8year 100k mile battery warranty should be good until 7/2027. I’m seeing no signs of her slowing down though.

I love this car and don’t want to sell. I’ve put 26k miles on her in the two years I’ve owned it and it has been a blast. A personal situation necessitates the sale though and it no longer fits our lifestyle. I’m not in a rush, but it’s going this summer. I’ll add more photos later. DM me if interested. Located near Boston, MA but I’ll deliver as far as NYC since I’m making trips there frequently.

DM me if you have a serious offer.

What does everyone thinks she’s worth? How ‘bout them gas prices!?

Switching from IOG to EDF. Is the e-Golf compatible?

Struggling to find clear details on this. Has anyone with an e-Golf switched to EDF and does the car have to rely on ‘dumb’ charging (therefor missing out on whole house cheap rate) or does it work with the smart charge tariff? I’ve emailed EDF but not sure how long it will take to receive a response.

2019 eGolf brake and rotor replacement costs?

I have a 2019 egolf and live in the Seattle area. I noticed a buildup of rust behind all 4 tires and from what I've read my brakes and rotors need to be replaced. It's also been a year since I purchased it and the inspection notification is popping up on the dash. I am a single mom and my savings account isn't enormous. I'm trying to get an idea of what the cost would be.

So far one place has quoted $1450 which includes front and rear brake and rotor replacement as well as cabin filter and brake fluid replacement.

Another sent an itemized invoice which totaled $1,134.89, which is front and rear replacements, with a "free" inspection... that part sounds questionable though as I feel like the free inspection can turn into them charging me an arm and a leg for the fluid and filter.

Is $1450 a reasonable estimate for everything?

ID Polo

So the ID Polo looks the part … at least on the outside. With this car available to order in Germany and the ID Golf coming, does it mean there is finally a worthy successor to our esteemed eGolf?

I want to thank everyone that helped me decide which eGolf to purchase. I ended up buying the 2017 SEL.

I've only driven it a couple miles, but what a great car so far!

First EV, not my first MK7!

had a deep black pearl GTI. Regretfully sold. Just sold our 19 GSW to get our first EV.

Hard to find these in black! Late 2017 SEL premium with digital cockpit and DAP. Carfax shows it was owned by VW and registered in Michigan through 2021 with only 1600mi in those first few years. 26k mi, battery health above 90%, $13k, sale included original rims. Rate my buy!

We love it- but currently working out some inevitable heat pump issues with our local EV mechanic

Battery Degradation Test

Hey all. I looked at a 2016 SEL today at a VW dealer. Since the batteries on these is the majority of the asset of the car I asked if they could provide me a battery status printout showing the health of the battery, how many KWH the pack has at full charge, etc. I was told they couldn’t do it which didn’t jive with my research. Dealer claimed they could only do a pass/fail test on it.

After our test drive it read 47 miles remaining at 75% charge, I think that maths out to 63 miles on a full charge. I know this is calculated on how it had been driven and climate control.

I don’t have access to OBDeleven, but my neighbor has a scan tool very similar to an xtool - could it be read on there? And is this dealer being truthful?

Upgrading 2015 eGolf 24.2kW Battery to 2017+ 38.5kW pack…worth it?

Hello fellow e-Golfers! Seeking some advice here…I have a 2015 Pacific Blue eGolf in the U.S., specifically in Massachusetts and I absolutely love this car. It is fun to drive, has needed minimal maintenance, and been reliable for me overall. I just put new tires on it as well. I want to drive this car til the wheels fall off and hope to keep it for the long run for as long as possible, But I just wish I could get more out of it with the range, especially living up North with colder temps, sometimes that adds another struggle on top of the small battery pack to begin with.

I’ve been considering doing a swap of the battery pack. I think this is possible to be done based on feedback I’ve read up on from others in the group. I’ve found an independent shop in the area willing to do it, and now my next step is to find a donor battery…I’m aware of www.car-part.com, but anyone else have any other recommendations where they’ve found their donor battery?

As for the labor, I’ve been told it is pretty much a plug-and-play process, and should take 8-10 hours. Has anyone who has done a similar swap as this found it to be worth it? What would you say is a reasonable amount to put in this project all in including the cost of the donor battery and labor? I’ve seen battery units on car-parts.com go between $1.5k to $3k, and estimating the shop’s labor to be around $2k to $2.5k, so $6k all in roughly. As for programming, anyone know if this is something that is mandatory to be done? Is programming restricted to ONLY be done by the VW dealership? I’m just afraid that once the swap is done, it may not be able to be driven out of the shop due to this.

Thanks for reading and any/all input on this subject…I appreciate any insight you guys have!

Every time I look at upgrading to a Id.4 I’m reminded how nice this car is.

Man. Looking at the interior photos of various Id.4s that are available I can’t help but notice how cheap they look compared to the egolf. Plastic everywhere and no physical buttons makes them look really tacky.

I’ll keep my short range, comfortable egolf. Just wish it had 100 miles more range.

Aftermarket Strut Recommendations

Last week I learned that I have a bent strut which needs to be replaced. If I'm replacing one strut, why not consider upgrading all four? Have any of you upgraded to aftermarket struts?

This is the family car, so I don't want to make the ride quality too harsh - but if there are struts that are better in corners while increasing comfort, I'd love to buy them.

How did I do on my drive home? I was nervous for the 60 mile ride. Had a buddy to draft off of, a little tailwind, and is downhill as you can get in the Midwest.

2018 and plan to own it for another 6 years

Does it sound crazy? No major issue with the car besides wear items. I replaced the brakes and struts.

Other option is to sell it now and get a used but newer EV. I enjoy driving the golf. Range is not an issue as this is mainly a commute vehicle

Wonder if there is any residual value for a 12-13 years old egolf!! Will be low mileage though. I have 35k right now .

Efficient motorway driving tips?

Hi all started my new job today and will be on the road quite often around 1/1 1/2 hrs drive there and back and I was wondering if anyone had any efficiency tips?

I have a 24 plate Golf R line fuel type is hybrid electric and I’m finding sometimes on long drives when I’m driving around 60-65 on D eco it adds a lot of mileage onto the fuel, however when I’m doing the same drive back at the same speed it goes down significantly.

My drive to work is around 60 miles however, when I started driving in the morning it was around 110 and by the time I returned home it was at 15?!

I have never put it in sports mode and always keep it at D, don’t really speed - most I go is around 75 sometimes at max. Just thought I’d see if there is any tips anyone can share or if there is something else I could be doing.

2017 SEL vs 2019 SE

I hoping to purchase an e-Golf this weekend, and I'm between two cars

2017 SEL with 49,000mi -$12,400

2019 SE with 90,000-$11,200

Both cars look in great shape, clean carfax

The 2017 does have more service records than the 2019, but after reading a lot about how little maintenance is required for these cars, does that matter?

My question is:

Is it better two have a newer battery with more miles? Or an older battery with less miles?

Also if there is anything I should be asking about these cars when I go see them, please let me know

I hope to join you guys soon

Thank you!
