Second opinion on repair
Hello everyone,
My Martin LX1 has been a good companion over the years and I have used it well. I also hang it on a wall mount for decoration in my living room because I think it's a beautiful piece, which sadly meant that a few years ago the top cracked due to the heat.
I brought it to a luthier locally and he glued it and that has held for a few years. The seam was almost invisible.
About 6 months ago the split reopened and I brought it again to him. He mentioned that he could glue it again, but it would probably be the same process of opening after a few years, so he mentioned he would fill the hole and it would remain a bit more visible.
I also asked to check the dents on the top that happened after a strap broke, and see if he could do anything about it. Online I've read about people steaming the vibers and being able to repair these kinds of damage.
After pickup I noticed he put some type of wax on it, which also left some residue along the top seam. The crack also was filled but quite visible.
It's not that I'm unhappy with the repairs, I'm very grateful this man put time and effort into getting my guitar in the best shape he can. But I am looking for opinions from other experienced people and insights if it's possible to bring it back more to it's original state or that I just have to live with the way it is now.
Gladly hear from you guys.
