They auto switched my monthly plan to a yearly billed monthly. Tried to charge cancellation fee

I used to pay £9.99 for Photoshop and lightroom but in January they upped it to £14.99. I asked customer service why it was upping by 50% and if I could just cancel instead. They said they'd give me 3 months free so I can "cancel in my own time". Great I guess. Might as well take advantage. 5 months pass and I realise I never cancelled so I just tried to and I'm being charged over £50 cancellation fee. Turns out they didn't just change the price, they discontinued the package I used to pay for and auto signed me up for a yearly-billed-monthly package instead. To be fair, the customer service guy was reasonable and cancelled it for me while waiving the fee but I'm absolutely astonished they're allowed to just put of the blue and for no reason just cancel the thing you agreed to and change it to something else with different terms. I'll never go back.
