A princess after all

A princess after all

I knew that the two blue girls, Dolly and hence Georgie, were princesses through Dolly's lineage and I knew that Tater and Georgie were half sisters but through their sire, so I always figured that Tater was just a lovable little peasant dog.

But I was fooling around on breedarchive.com just now and did a deep dive into Tater's pedigree and, what do you know, she also comes down to us from Arrow, JXN's very first Cardigan Welsh Corgi from 1980. Had to go back 12 generations, as opposed to just 10 for Dolly, but there it is.

OK, so it's not the book of Chronicles, but there's a long string of begats that ends with some pretty nice Corgis.

Duet with Dolly - singing as an ambulance goes by

Sometimes, with a little encouragement, Dolly will sing along with an ambulance siren. Apparently, I don't carry a tune any better this way than I do when whistling.

Tiny Core 17.1 on Toshiba Magnia SG20

It's been a long standing project to update this little box to the latest Tiny Core. I don't remember all that well, but it looks like I tried to update it from Tony Core 11.1 to Tiny Core 15.0 but never finished it (didn't leave 15.0 as the default boot option).

Upon updating to 17.1, I realized what was going on: The 17.1 boot was working correctly as (probably) was the 15.0 but I was mishandling displaying the results on the little LCD display. I can't blame anyone but myself for that since the script that handles the display is my own work! Once I got that straightened out, the thing boots up, displays connection information for connecting via ssh and we're good to go.

Now I just have to remember why I bothered (aside from "for the fun of it") - there aren't a lot of use cases for a little headless server with 128 MB of RAM and three noisy fans... Though I did have the case open a few days ago and discovered that it has a slot for -another- 128 MB... Woohooo!

The box originally had one of the early RedHat distros on it (pre-RHEL) and I saved that on the secondary HDD but I won't be using that.

Took the girls to scent work class this evening...

Didn't get the memo that it was cancelled for today. Fortunately, we had enough shtuff with us to have our own little private class, but the really fun part was afterward...

Guardian dogs sleeping on the job

Last night, I walked the entire length of the house - shoes off but not trying to be especially quiet - to find my four protectors (three Cardis and a Mal) completely oblivious to my moving about. It was so bad, I think I could have actually got a snack without them noticing. Ok, maybe not that. Dolly's inattention to duty was particularly egregious:

Herding dog gonna herd

I was out walking Tater (18 month Cardigan female) this morning and before she got around to using the grass she went into full "herding dog" mode - head low, ears out to the sides - looked for all the world like that trademarked border collie mode. I looked around to locate her intended victim and there it was, not fifty feet away. I checked around to make sure none of the neighbors' dogs were around (some of them aren't terribly trustworthy) - it was safe so I couldn't resist I just dropped the leash and let her have at it. "Cry 'havoc' and let slip the dogs of absurdity!" It's kind of a bummer that robins can fly. 🤣

It's also kind of a bummer that I didn't think to shoot a video of it nor even any stills. There's always tomorrow.

Dolly (7 y.o. Cardigan) is back from her spay surgery and she seems no worse for the wear.

She's had abdominal surgery twice before and seems to take it in stride.

The RuffLand crate is nice because the door comes the whole way off - makes it easier to get her carefully into it for the ride home.

I always seem to miss the official one but, really, around here, every day is Corgi day.
