Local 111
I’m curious, even though none of the grunt calls for 111 have per diem listed, is it possible as a traveler its be something that would be added on to cover hotels and such? Also are those groundman calls long calls?

I bid for a groundman call for 55 as a book 4 groundman and got the call today and the dude asked me if I was 21 and I told him that I’m 19 and he said he can’t give the job to me because I have the interstate restriction (obviously). Local 160 informed me that they’d hire you and give you time to transfer it so you could drive. So does it just vary whether a local is going to be lenient about that? Kinda bummed because that would’ve been my first call but it is what it is
I got my a CDL a few weeks ago and I signed some of the online books and still waiting for a call. Is 111 worth going to? I’m a book 4 because of no line school and I’m willing to go anywhere. Only reason I’ve kinda stayed away from traveling to 111 to sign the books is because a lot of people say stay away because it’s “ratty” and so on. Should I go sign them anyway? I see people saying they have calls everyday
Now I know there’s been threads about boots on here before but I wanted to know what ground boot you guys recommend and personally like. Also correct me if I’m wrong, assuming I’m strictly doing groundwork, any sort of shank on the boot is kinda pointless?
Just got my CDL and looking to leave Cali (of course) to get some hours wherever the work is
Sorry, I know this is probably a repeat question but looking to sign books soon. 2 parts to this question: what kind of tools should I bring starting out (I have lineman’s, side cutters, stripper, and that’s about it at the moment)? Also; clothes, what should I bring first day given a couple different factors like if it’s hot or cold?
