Is starting on ESP LTD 200 actually a BAD idea? Practical vs dream guitar
Hi guys, after 15 years as a metal listener (and some experience with growls & screams), I'm finally thinking about learning guitar.
I actually wanted to start about 15 years ago already, but between money, school and lack of time, it just never happened. Before anyone says it: I know I'm basically too old to start guitar now 😂😎
Right now I'm debating between:
- Ibanez Gio (hardtail)
- Jackson JS32T Rhoads (hardtail)
- … ESP LTD Alexi-200 🤡
I know the obvious answer is probably “get the cheaper beginner guitar”, and rationally I understand that. But Children of Bodom was the band that made me fall in love with melodic death metal and Alexi was a huge inspiration for me musically.
While I know a Floyd Rose is probably not the most beginner-friendly thing (well, not friendly at all as I heard), I'm pretty hands-on and the idea of swearing at string changes the first 10 times doesn't really scare me that much.
So I'm wondering if am I being too emotional here, or is there any real downside to getting the Alexi-200 besides:
- Floyd Rose complexity
- higher price
For context: I'd like to mainly play melodic death, thrash and folk metal, and I’ll start with a home setup (Scarlett 2i2 + MacBook + plugins)
Curious to hear your opinions, especially from people who started on a Floyd or on a guitar they emotionally connected with.
Feel free to destroy my reasoning, but try not to roast me too hard 😂🖤
