Why RTG feels off?

Never played a single football game in my life, but I decided to give it a try because my frat bought it. I've been learning a lot by playing, even though I've been stomping my head against the wall trying to understand the "why" behind what happens in-game.

But there's something that feels really off about RTG. I'm currently playing as a QB and decided to raise the difficulty a bit (one below Heisman, I can't remember what it's called), but it feels like every decision and play I make is a 50/50.

I've played some games with my friends and in Dynasty, and RTG feels like the AI is 99% cheating. My WRs don't seem to know how to catch the ball, constantly choosing the worst type of catch possible (like going for an aggressive catch even when the ball is coming directly to their chest). And even on easy passes, they sometimes can't hold onto the ball after making the catch, yet I still get blamed for the incompletion in-game.

Not even going to talk about the interceptions that sometimes the AI gets (I swear one of them got super speed to reach my WR one time)

Am I missing something here, or is this just the current state of the game?
