Who are your favorite guest characters?

To narrow things down, I'm just looking at multi-episode appearances, but you can pick any you want. To get us started, I'll go with:

Carlton Blanchard (William Hickey)

Sandy Cooper (Valerie Mahaffey)

Cord Clayton (Jonathan Slavin)

There were of course other outstanding guest stars, like Laura Innes, Rose Marie, Ally Walker, John Ritter, Mitchell Ryan, Anne Francis, Pat Hingle, and Phil Leeds, among other notables.

The annoying Carlton Blanchard just plain annoyed me the first time through. On rewatch though, something clicked and I finally got it. He's hilarious. Sandy Cooper's whiplash craziness, that only Joe seems to notice, is too. Both of these characters have a lot of originality, and benefit not only from clever writing but also the considerable talents of William Hickey and Valerie Mahaffey. Jonathan Slavin's performance as Cord Clayton was one of the most realistic of the series.

Is it better to apply for Social Security ex-spousal benefits online or in person?

My understanding is they want to see the original marriage certificate and divorce decree. I'm guessing this favors applying in person, but it's already three months before I'm eligible and applying online could sidestep a potential delay waiting for an appointment.

What has your experience been like applying in person at your local Social Security office? Online? If you apply online, can you then present your docs at your local office or must you mail them (and risk their loss)? I'm broadly familiar with the applicable rules and have the required documents but am struggling with the mechanics of applying.
