letting the wild horse ride

I think I’ve finally come to a strange sort of peace about the end of my favorite podcast.

Everybody has been assuming that Jordan is the one that ended it, and I’m inclined to agree, but I also don’t wanna speculate about things that people don’t wanna talk about.

I definitely want to know more information. Don’t get me wrong. And it’s frustrating that neither of them want to really explain it, or get into things personally, but I think they’re still processing what happened.

It annoys me when people talk about how like, Jordan was impulsive or emotional or unstable and I’m like…

Yeah?

I mean of course he was.

I wouldn’t have been fucking listening if he wasn’t.

This show hit a strange kind of alchemy where Dan swam into the ocean of horrors and dragged back to shore some wild horrible nonsense. And Jordan, his friend on the beach, would react like we all want to react, except exaggerated.

He wouldn’t just say “that’s some wild horrible nonsense“, he would scream it!

There’s this concept in stage acting where you need to really exaggerate your mannerisms, so that the audience will be able to see it from a distance. You even need to speak loudly, so your audience can hear you. Even the concept of camp is fairly similar, sincerity itself needs to be exaggerated.

That’s Jordan. That’s Jordan in all of his openly manic depressive, wide eyed madman identity. Hell, he’s almost like Alex Jones, he could’ve been Alex Jones if he was indoctrinated in the wrong way!

I think Jordan put a lot of his emotion into this. And anytime you do that, you might get your heart broken.

As somebody like him, who loves harder than ever when I fall for the right person, I see a lot of myself in him. I would be a wife guy, if I married the right girl. And I will when I marry the right girl.

Maybe I’m idolizing mental illness, or maybe I’m comforting myself for my own mental illness. Maybe all of the rest of you hate Jordan, and thought that he was deadweight being carried around by Dan.

For me, he was the guy giving Dan the oxygen mask of perspective, when he came back to the surface.

There’s a moment in episode 52 where Jordan points out that Mount Rushmore is racist. And Dan is confused at first, like “no, you know there is Teddy Roosevelt up there…“ And Jordan further explains that no, Mount Rushmore was a sacred site to indigenous people, and carving a bunch of dead leaders on their from the people that nearly annihilated yours is despicable.

For me that’s an example of what I’m talking about. Dan can swim deep into the ocean of horrors. But it’s hard to keep perspective, and remember all of those things that we’re fighting for without a good friend to keep you company and to call you on your bullshit.

Jordan, you’re a wild horse. I know you’ve got a run for now. If it’s you that’s doing the running. But I do hope you and Dan are able to talk again and host a show together again. And not just a guest spot, I mean a long show. Like this one.

Then again, I probably listen to almost half or a third of the catalog, and missed most of the middle. So maybe I’ve missed out on a lot.

It’s important to be able to recognize that you might be a fucking idiot.

Bye

P.S. as somebody who started listening maybe around episode 700 or so, maybe 800 or 900, can somebody clue me in on the other projects that Jordan has worked on and is continuing to work on? I only learned today that he wrote a book. Is that even a novel, or is it a rant, what’s going on with “quiet part out loud?” And can somebody point me to Jordan’s other projects?
