So I have watched many YouTube Videos, read many guides etc and from what I can gather you can replace the hard disk with a Western Digital Drive and keep the backwards compatibility without any mods / chips.

What I can't find is any kind of list of know Western Digital Drives that work.

I was hoping if you fine folks can indeed confirm that you can keep the backwards compatibility by using a western digital drive and if so, is it any or is there any certain drives 2.5 SATA Drives which are recommended.
