Zoomies!

Finally able to get some decent footage of my tank!

Added a tiny little bit of extra eggs, in the hope that some more babies help clear up the cloudy tank as I only have three in there atm.

And as soon as I stirred in the eggs they got excited and started doing zoomies!

Photo tips?

For the life of me I can’t get a clear photo of my sea monkeys, between the bright tank light, their constant movement, and how small they are.

Does anyone have any tips for getting a clear photo of them? I want to share photos with my friends and this sub!

Is this algae? [tank update and questions]

Hey yall! My tank has been such a rollercoaster but everything is stable and my babies seem to be heading towards maturity.

Genuinely not sure how old they are as I had some napulii that were about a week old, I topped up their water and the next day i couldn’t see any activity in the tank and assumed they had passed away. The following day I noticed a bunch of new hatchings, and I also topped up with the tiniest sprinkle of extra eggs. I committed to leaving the tank alone as much as possible as I thought my meddling and excitement was likely part of why they weren’t thriving. Those hatchlings did wonderful! They are approximately 5 days old and look much more mature than my last batch so I thought: maybe the previous napulii didn’t pass but were hiding in the tank?

I haven’t had success getting clear photos of them unfortunately but they are about 4-5mm and their legs are distinctly visible while swimming, you can see their little digestive tracts on the larger ones.

Sorry for the long story, may main question is: Did the new hatchlings mature very quickly or is it possible my previous ones were hiding and continued maturing (they’d be around 2 weeks if true)

Second question, which is what the photos are of! Is this algae growth? I’m concerned about overfeeding, but I can’t tell if this green fluffy layer at the bottom of my tank is algae or not. Tried my best to get good photos but my old ass phone and super bright tank light makes it hard haha.

Finally, because I’ve been concerned about over feeding I just want to ask what the specific risk is? Do they eat to death? Does the excess food choke out the oxygen in the water? Just wondering!

Again sorry for the super long post, thank you!

Evaporation question

My tank is filled with premixed saltwater from a pet store. It’s been hot here and has evaporated a bit.

Do I top up the tank with the same saltwater, or with distilled water since salt doesn’t evaporate?

Thanks for any help!

Tank update and questions!

Here’s a view of my current set up, and I attempted to take some photos of some of my little guys 🥹

They’re doing really well…they’ve survived about 3-4 days now and they seem lively and happy! I can see them growing a tiny bit each day!

I have some questions about this stage in the process:
-There is seawater in this tank, and it’s naturally a bit cloudy. My colony seems very ravenous and I’ve been feeding them 1-2 of the little scoops of food mixed with water a day, and some days even an extra scoop and it’s usually cleared out within an hour or two. SO my question is can they survive 24 hours without food? I’m worried about over feeding, but also worried I might tank my colony if they’re this hungry 😅

-I have an air pump in the corner of the tank that produces 1 bubble approx every two seconds. Literally just enough to keep the water circulating through the day. My sea monkeys seems to enjoy hanging out at the top of the tank —not exclusively they do swim around and stuff— I’ve seen some comments say this indicates not enough oxygen in the water, do my guys need more air? I also have a light that shines through the top of the tank so could they just be attracted to the light?

-I am currently keeping the tank at 29°C, and they seem active and happy. As they mature will I need to lower the temp? I’ve heard 26° is more ideal for adults? And if so, can I simply change the dial on my heater and let it cool naturally or will that shock them?

Ok ty!! 🫶

Questions about this set?

Absolutely obsessed with this abandoned amusement park gacha set! I had a few questions about it!

-Does anyone have the official name or brand that created this? I’d love to research it more!

-Can anyone recommend any other sets that have a similar vibe or theme? Specifically abandoned buildings, theme park related, or even anything that could potentially fit in the realm of spooky animatronics/submechanophobia type stuff!

-any tips on how to get this set in Canada without spending an unreasonable amount?

Tank update

All of my hatchlings have passed away…I’m very torn up, and frustrated.

I had mixed them saltwater using the measurements provided by the wiki on the sub, they had a low watt tank heater and I was keeping the tank around 28°C ,as I read the babies like to be a little warmer than adults, with the intention of reducing slowly to 26°C as they matured.

The first day they hatched I had at least 30-40 little guys, about halfway through the next day the numbers had dwindled, and kept declining to just four this morning. I’m using watchable eggs meant to be fed alive to bigger fish, I know name brand Sea Monkeys are genetically modified, but I’ve seen a lot of success stories with generic too.

They only just hatched Tuesday, the sea monkey food packet suggests waiting 7 days to feed, but I was watching videos on YouTube and looking at posts in the sub saying that food could be introduced as early as day 3. I put the barest molecule of food in thinking that maybe so many had died off because they were ready to eat?

I had also been aerating them by gently stirring a few times a day, and today I was aerating by taking a clean syringe (like the kind you’d give oral medicine in) and just injecting air into the water.

There’s a lot of variables in play here, but does anyone have any ideas what specifically could have been the problem?

After everyone was gone I shone my phone flashlight into the tank to check for any survivors and noticed some dust in the tank and a few pet hairs (as well as what I would describe as a carpet of dead Sea monkeys, and what I think were either unhatched eggs or empty shells from the ones that did hatch) would that debris have been enough to harm them?

I topped up the water (post mortem) and added just a few more eggs—do they have any chance or do I need to start from scratch (again 💔)?

Thank you for any advice, I’m feeling really discouraged, and a bit frustrated as I seem to keep having to buy things to try and help them thrive haha.

Tank update!

Hey yall!

Thank you so much for all the tips and advice on my last post!

I updated my setup with a betta tank, got proper aquarium salt to refill, and some brine shrimp eggs from the pet store. Unfortunately the old water was unusable, so my original eggs were not able to be kept 💔 I also got a mini heater!

Within 24h with the new setup my little shrimplings hatched! I tried to get photos but they’re very small of course.

I also had a couple questions now that I have some babies in the tank:

-Is there a way to remove those bubbles along the sides for easier viewing, without disrupting my babies?

-How can I introduce tank decor without hurting my babies? I already intend to wait until they’re mature, but I wanted to make sure I do it right!

Thanks! I’ll keep updating as they grow!

Beginner set up advice?

Decided to hatch some Sea Monkeys, as I’d had some as a kid!

This is the set up I’m starting out with and I’m just wanting some feedback from more experienced sea monkey parents.

Is this a decent size for them? (Last slide has my hand beside tank for scale)
Will I need a tank heater?
Should they get more sun exposure?

I bought a Sea Monkey kit just from Walmart and aside from not using the tank it came with I’ve been following the instructions exactly. I know they can take up to 3 weeks to hatch, but I put the egg packet in on Friday and still no sign of anything—I’m happy to be patient assuming my set up is okay.m, but I’m worried maybe the tank is the reason they haven’t begun hatching?

Thanks for any help!
