Help with Purchasing Moc Toes - First Barefoot Boots

Hey y’all. I’ve been getting really interested in making the switch to barefoot. I work as a chef and wear crocs, they’re the only thing I’ve found comfortable enough to work in after over a decade and I think a lot of it is due to the wide toe splay with just enough cushion. I think if I could have a shoe that felt just like those but was built with heritage quality it would be perfect.
I daily wear standard ARs outside of work, I have four pairs of JGs. I love them all but I find the ARs just a bit too narrow for full foot function while hiking.
I want to purchase a pair of the barefoot moc-toes, but had a few questions I was hoping y’all could help with.

  1. Does anyone have experience with how wide this toe box actually is? Was it enough for you? Is it comparable to crocs? Is it significantly wider than the standard ARs?
  2. Is the cushion underfoot adequate with the leather midsole and Africa outsole? Is there space for an additional insole? (I like Meanders more but I’ve read they are less tall in the toe than Workhorse)
  3. I’ve read you must go a half size up with these from what you wear in ARs, some even say a full size. How accurate is that?
Thank y’all. Hoping these work for me and can become my new dailies for hiking, gym, errands, etc.
