Fresh clean and some oil.

I have about 5 months of working in these. Commercial framing and drywall. I’m not easy on boots and these things are tanks. Holding up much better than expected.

Sandhurst in brown

The Sandhurst seems to be JG least popular offering, and I kind of get why. It is JG going full in on traditional "formal" styling (unlike the half attempt with the Shoellie), while doing their usual rugged construction. What you get is a stylish boot with a lot of leather and rubber. However, it comes at a cost in comfort. The slim last, though not as slim as many Italian dress boots, still squish those pinky toes in tight from the side and also squishes the toes from the top. The thick (for dress boots) full grain outer leather, the leather midsole and thick rubber soles make for a very stiff boot. When taking a step, there is almost no bend at the base of the toe area like most boots. Instead the foot takes on a sort of rocking chair motion in its stationary position (I don't know if many people will get this reference). This causes quite some pain on the heel, and even started to radiate up towards my butt with the way I had to walk in these. All the leather and rubber also makes for a bulky and heavy dress boot. Though you get the silhouette of a dress boot, you also don't really get the refined slim dress boot look upon closer inspection. Personally, there will only be around 30-40 times a year where I would wear something formal or business casual like the Sandhurst, so it will probably take me 2 years to full break these in, and even than I'm not sure how comfy they will get.

JG is lauded for their rugged construction, thick leathers, at very good prices. When it comes to the Sandhurst, it shows that JG designers really tried to put a good effort into expanding their catalogue into proper formal wear while sticking to their roots. However, I feel trying to inject their rugged roots worked against them here. You have to assume that the customer isn't going to be abusing the boots on hikes or on the farm if they are buying dress boots. You also do not need these thick leathers and rubber soles to make a dress boot that will last. Really for a last/silhouette so slim, you really need to have thinner materials to make a comfortable boot. I would say I wouldn't recommend these, however at the price they are positioned the Sandhurst is competing against cemented/non resolable dress boots that will probably have low quality leather. So I guess if you are looking for a cheapish dress boot that will last a lifetime, get these but you are getting a fairly bulky dress boot that will put you in a world of hurt for quite a while.

Workhorse VS Tyre wedge 719 for WORK

Hey mates, I am between the workhorse and the 719 wedge for a second work boot for home improvement carpentry/construction. I do already own a pair of rugged African troopers but I want a second 6 in boot.

I initially wanted to get something a little lighter and cooler for the summer and something that would dry out easier so I was considering the workhorse but I am a little worried about thrashing them.

The 719 seems like it would be more durable and protective with the double last but then I would assume it would be much hotter.

And suggestions and opinions would be appreciated especially if anyone has and experience doing any king of construction or similar work in either.

Finally got my AnatomX BFAR

Finally get my Anatomx bfar. The first time I found something I can put my wide hobbit foot in and the side just perfect. My actual foot size is 8.5 but I always need to scale up to 9.5 to 10 just to accommodate my width. After almost 3 weeks of thinking what size should I order. I Finally ordered the 8.5 to see if the anatomx last js actual wide enough and it is! This is the first time in my life I get feet snug ln the side.

Can't wait to take them out for a hike.

Resole option

Im looking into resoling my BFAR'S and was curious what everyone is using outside of jim green soles. Has anyone tried the vibram freestone? I mainly wear my boots at work on concrete all day and for hiking. Any input on what people have used is greatly appreciated.

AnatomX AR sizing

Hi! I'm currently in the process of trying on a pair of AnatomX African Rangers (Bronco Brown) that I ordered. So first off: amazing pair of boots. The toe space feels incredible. The problem is that I'm having difficulties deciding whether they are the right size or not. I'm hoping that some of you can share your experiences and takes when it comes to sizing!

I measured my feet to more or less exactly 27 cm or 10.63 inches, and so, per Jim Green's size guide, I ordered a size of UK 9 / US 10 / EU 43.

What I'm noticing is that when I walk in them, I can feel my big toe hitting the front at times. And I get the feeling that walking down slopes will have my big toes resting against the front.

However, I also notice that my heel is not "at rest" at the back of the shoe. But when my heel is touching the back of the shoe there is around 1,5 cm or 0.591 inches to spare at the front. I'm thinking that maybe when the leather relaxes over time, my feet will find themselves further back in the shoes and more room will present itself at the front... Or is this just copium?

How have sizes worked for you guys? Is the size guide right on the money or have you had to size up due to shoe length? Will there be more space at the front with time or should I just swap for half a size bigger?

It’s my turn for NBD

I ordered this pair of custom barefoot vellies in bronco biscuit. They look amazing. They fit great and I couldn’t be happier with them. I thought I ordered the olive green shoelaces with them, but I guess I didn’t so it’s off to the store to go find some.

AnatomX BFAR vs BFAR sizing

Hey all,

I have the BFAR in 9.5. The length is good though my toes are a bit squished on the width. I normally don’t wear socks with them but when I do then it overall feels quite tight. (Tho still not so much in the length)

So my question is, in getting the BFAR anatomX, with their extra width, better to stay with 9.5 or go for 10?

Thanks!

What’s your experience with switching between normal and barefoot soles?

I’m tempted to try a barefoot model for my second pair from them but I was wondering if it feels weird regularly switching between the two. You tend to get very used to things you use and experience on a daily basis and I wasn’t sure if that would feel off or annoying in some way throwing that into the mix with all my more typical shoes

I just wanted one pair of boots... Somehow It became a two year boot saga.

Ahoy everyone!

As a bit of a Jim Green enthusiast, I think I'm slowly building a complete Jim Green ecosystem for my feet. 😄 After a lot of trial and error, I finally think I've figured out my size and preferred last.

It all started with a pair of African Rangers. They're fantastic boots, sturdy, incredibly comfortable, and they've become my go-to pair for heavier work around our family farm. The only problem? I accidentally ordered them half a size too big. My mistake... I was still learning that Jim Green sizing is a bit different.

Then came my custom ASHM Stockmans...

That's where I nearly lost my mind.

The right boot felt noticeably tighter than the left. Naturally, I assumed my right foot was slightly bigger, so I measured my feet, changed insoles, questioned my own sanity, even took them to a cobbler... nothing made sense.

One day I finally grabbed a caliper and measured the boots themselves.

Turns out the right boot was about 3 mm shorter than the left. After some more measuring, I realised one boot had effectively been made as a UK 7 and the other as a UK 7.5. A genuine manufacturing mistake.

Honestly, mistakes happen. I make them too, so I wasn't angry.

I contacted Jim Green, they immediately acknowledged the mistake and offered to remake the boots.

A few weeks later the replacement arrived...

...and they accidentally made the replacement in the smaller size. 🤣

At that point I honestly didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Surprisingly though, I still wasn't disappointed. If anything, I was impressed by how they handled the situation, and the whole experience actually helped me figure out exactly what size and last work best for me.

Even getting the replacement into Europe turned into its own adventure. Customs through DHL felt like an unexpected boss fight. 😂 I spent almost as much time filling out customs paperwork as I did configuring the boots. They wanted every single item listed separately, boots, insoles, laces, leather upgrades... I honestly started wondering if they thought I was importing an entire shoe factory.

In the end everything got sorted, and I even managed to sell the replacement pair that turned out too small to another happy Jim Green owner.

By then summer had arrived, and I needed a lightweight shoe for mowing season on our family farm. So, after way too much overthinking (as usual), I finally ordered a custom pair of Shoellies.

The build:

• ASHM last (UK 8)

• Bronco Brown leather

• Triple stitching wherever possible

• Olive stitching on the upper, brown stitching around the sole

• Polywoven midsole (I wanted to keep them as light as possible)

• Black Oringo wedge sole

• No thermoplastic toe puff

Technically they aren't a traditional Goodyear welt because of the polywoven midsole, but I wanted something more practical for everyday use.

When they arrived... I'll be honest, I was disappointed.

They looked completely different from what I had imagined. I think leaving out the toe puff gave them a much softer shape than I expected. I actually left them sitting in the box for almost a week because I just couldn't connect with them.

Then one day I put them on...

...and never really took them off again.

Since then they've shoveled manure, survived countless hours of mowing, been worn around the farm every single day, attended a wedding, walked through rain, and somehow turned out to be surprisingly water resistant for such a lightweight shoe.

They're honestly one of the most comfortable pairs I own.

The Bronco leather also really grew on me. After plenty of use it looked like it had lost some of its oils, so I treated them with Jim Green's beeswax balm and it brought the leather straight back to life. I still don't really know the "correct" way to care for Bronco leather because there aren't many guides out there, but brushing them regularly and giving them a light conditioning every now and then seems to work perfectly.

My only real complaint is that because of the low-cut design, bits of hay and grass occasionally find their way into the shoe while working on the farm—but honestly, that's more a consequence of how I'm using them than a flaw in the design.

Looking back, this whole journey has been ridiculous.

I ordered boots.

I accidentally ordered the wrong size.

I received one boot in a different size.

Jim Green remade them.

The remake came in the wrong size.

I fought customs.

I sold the replacement pair.

I ordered another custom pair.

...and somehow I'm still here planning the next order.

I guess that's how you know you're a Jim Green fan. 😂

Right now I'm already debating between another pair of custom Shoellies in Buffalo leather... or maybe a custom Vellie.

P.S. If anyone from Jim Green is reading this... after everything I've been through, I think I've earned an honorary position in Quality Control... or at least a loyalty discount before I accidentally finance another season of custom boot experiments. 😄🍻

About the barefoot shoelies

How do the barefoots do for all day on your feet wear do? For reference i only work 3 days a week but I walk a minimum of 12 miles a shift the most I've walked is 17. My current work boots are super old so no support or cusion and I walk barefoot or in super loose untied boots otherwise. I really like the look of them in bronco brown and the price is right but I wanted to hear thoughts on long use sessions.

Shoe glue

Had these African Rangers for a year and the outsole is peeling away from the leather midsole. Anyone know of a glue brand that would hold this together for another few months? I've already tried a couple times with a clamp overnight but no luck.
