Barefoot African Ranger Midsole addition and Resole
As promised to some in other threads on resoling, here is my very rough DIY resole of my BFAR. These were purchased in 2024, resoled with Vibram Kletterlift in 2025, and now needed another resole so decided to try something new.
I always liked the feel of the original anvil sole but it was pretty quick wearing. The Kletterlifts were a bit more hard wearing but definitely increased the ground feel in a way that worked in some settings, but was fatiguing after repeated sharp rocks, etc. That's more of an observation and not really a major complaint as I was able to still wear them double digit miles and I definitely wore them to the ground.
So this resole I decided to lean into what I use them as: all purpose wide toe box (close to) zero drop boots that I essentially treat as my everyday sneakers. I picked up two outsoles: the Vibram Sierra and Vibram 360 Force since they seem to fit this all terrain all purpose theme. I chose the 360 Force for this resole. I also decided to add a 10mm EVA (85 kg/m³ high density stuff marketed for cosplay) midsole between the slip sole and outsole. This may be sacrilege to some, but treating these as an experiment I wanted to see what a cushioned BFAR with good traction could do for me. All slapped together with Barge Cement and cut and sanded by hand for this resole.
So far one walk in they are exactly what you'd expect: a cushioned zero drop African Ranger.
Edit: spelling, also I forgot to mention I also added some new thick leather insoles I cut for these which will need breaking in
