Delete is not allowed, but I stopped in a thrift store today and came across this cool SNL related item. They overpriced it at $25, otherwise I would have grabbed it, but it was cool to see “Toonces the driving cat” again for the first time since he drove Steve Martin and Victoria Jackson off the side of a cliff.
The statue of a grieving man at this grave was a very powerful addition. Although many of the graves here at the cemetery in Santiago were incredible, this one may have stuck with me the most.
Montevideo was pretty prolific with their street stickers.
So I was in Santiago a few weeks ago and being a connoisseur of street stickers I enjoyed checking out the stickers that adorned the city. But this sticker here, “Nelson Fleim”, was absolutly everywhere. I never saw a sticker take over a city like this one did. Does anyone know the story behind it? I’m assuming it was some sort of promo for an album or something but would love to know what the story is behind it.
At the General Cemetery in Santiago, Chile is the final resting place of nearly a dozen former Chilean presidents, including this one of Pedro Montt, who ruled from 1906-1910. Montt was elected on a ticket of National Unity but, per Wikipedia, one of his first official acts “was to call out the army to suppress large-scale strikes in 1907”which resulted in the Santa Maria School Massacre. Thousands of striking miners and their families were killed during the massacre, and it appears that Montt’s reputation in Chile never recovered. His gravesite has been badly desecrated with graffiti and inside the tomb there is a shattered stained glass panel and a few beer bottles. It also appears that the groundskeepers use his tomb to store their brooms. Needless to say shocking to see the final resting place of a former president in such a state.
