The Adulis Urbanites - Urban Warfare Specialists
Hi folks, first time poster here. Apologies for the Heroforge art but it was the best aproximation I could do without resorting to abominable intelligence. So I have a longer lore document (see link:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IrFn3suGNI1fqrQrEcDunEFxvfLqmM1BRlgdtqxLQLY/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.juhiribuyg1o ) but this is the TL:DR (yes I know it is still long).
Homeworld: Adulis
Adulis is a shipyard world in the Ultima Segmentum around half way between Balor and Cirillo Prime, sitting on a key trade route between Terra, Nocturne and Macragge. It is sort of between a forge, fortress and hive world. Basically they don't make much stuff there, they act as a massive depot and repair station for the Imperium. Cargo ships arrive and leave with all sorts of supplies, docking in orbital dockyards, while skies are filled with shuttlecraft taking items to and from the planet. In M38, the planet suffered a large chaos invasion called the Harrowing, aided by local cultists. Despite being cut off from help by a warpstorm, the PDF, local gangs and millions of volunteers fought a brutal campaign of urban warfare and managed to push the invaders back. When the reinforcements arrived, the Inquisition was impressed by how well they had fought. As such, as punishment for letting cults fester on the planet, they were ordered to supply specialist urban warfare guard regiments.
Doctrine and Personality:
In a word, scrappy. Adulisans care little for parade-ready discipline and noble, honourable combat. They are sometimes called "Urban Catachans", and their is some overlap, especially in attitude (though Adulisans have less bravado and more dry sarcastic complaining about mundane issues and not the horrors in front of them). However, they actually fight more like a combination of Arbites and GSC. They excel at close range combat in constrained environments. They use lascarbines as their primary weapon of choice along with shotguns. They prefer lighter vehicles. The hippogriff ATV is their Leman Russ, and also use lots of bikes, sentinels and modified industrial vehicles, including a more heavily armoured Achiles Ridgerunner called the Memnon and a light tank called the Satyr which is basically a Leman Russ turret on a chimera chasis. They also tend to use wheeled chimeras instead of tracks. Their uniforms are similar to grey mechanic's jumpsuits, though as they are stained with grime they become adaptive camouflage to local urban conditions.
They also have their own unique infantry units, specifically Slitters (stealth, agile, parkour/clambering, melee commandos), Wreckers (buff melee guys with industrial equipment like power saws, hammers etc), Riggers (equipped with a "Rig", which is kind of an exo-suit used to lift heavier weapons in one hand, but kind of slow) and finally Wardens (heavier infantry tied to the Union of Cleansing, discussed below).
Adulisans have a reputation for being undisciplined, filthy and riddled with criminal activity due to their general demeanour the high amount of criminal gangs on the planet. This reputation is partially true and partially exaggerated by reputation. However, despite not being the most law abiding of Guard regiments, the Adulisans are also extremely pious. It is a strange duality where they wont really care about minor criminal activity like theft or brawls (unless it impacts them or there is a risk of repercussions), but showing ANY doubt in your faith in the Emperor will get you punched at best. As such, due to their piety and fighting style they are some of the best regiments to send in against chaos cults in hive cities.
The Union of Cleansing
The absolute piety of Adulisans was forged during the Harrowing, but another movement also began to take hold in its aftermath. Maybe Adulis should also try to clean up their image, get rid of the gangs and the high level corruption? This movement was gradual but around 400 years ago the planet suffered a major plane-wide gang conflict called The Gutter War. During this conflict, a priest called Miriam Kutal founded the Union of Cleansing, a puritanical movement that aimed to cleanse Adulis of gang violence and corruption. However, while this organisation was religious, Kutal was smart. She worked with the Arbites on the planet and coordinated her efforts with them so her organisation would technically be an axillary force to the Arbites, not under the Ministorum (hence getting round the no men under arms thing). She also wanted her force to be disciplined through temperance, not an unruly mob. After the Gutter War, the Union's influence continued to spread, so the point where they now have official units within the Guard. Specifically Wardens (who operate kind of like Arbites mixed with Karskin) and Overseers (kind of a mixture of Commissar and Priest). However, the Union is far from unified. There are two main factions within it. One prefers the Union stay more as a way to help the people of Adulis, acting as a community network to encourage personal discipline. Others think the primary focus should be as a religious military order to burn away the gang-sinners.
Characters
General Endriyas Beckler
A mid level noble who joined the Guard to avoid the politics and corruption of the High Noble families of Adulis, Beckler is much more neat and tidy than most of the Adulis troops. However, he also tends to wear very plain, simple uniforms and doesn't care much for ostentatious displays of command. He is known as an incredibly adaptable commander who uses what resources he has to come up with unorthodox strategies, mixing doctrine from many sources. He encourages his subordinates to contribute ideas and work together. His major flaws are an utter disdain of political manoeuvring within the guard and a lack of bravado. He is someone who prefers to get the job done rather than grand inspiring speeches.
Colonel Jessica "Old Grimer" Varlen.
She was a rigger who still goes to war in her customised war rig known as Chunker, and is basically to the Adulisans what Straken is to the Catachan. She leads the 86th Dock Rats, their most famous regiment. They are an infantry regiment mostly made up of standard Adulisan Guard but also with a decent number of their unique infantry units.
Overseer-Colonel Nerius Kaydon
Kaydon is a member of the Union of Cleansing, and specifically of their more religious militant side. However, he is also the dangerous combination of fanatical, politically cunning and ambitious. He believes the Imperium is rotten with large-scale corruption. The Union could be the perfect oppertunity to burn it out, acting as a huge militia combining the discipine of the Commissars and Arbites with the zealotry of the Ministorum, acting as a combined popular militia for both. He commands the 518th Bulwark, a heavy infantry defensive regiment.
Another nature YouTube channel recommendation for Jesse: Casual Geographis
youtube.comInteresting fact for Crendor: Turkeys are actually named after Türkiye... kind of.
So in the most recent CnC, they were discussing the name of Turkey which changed its English language name to Türkiye to match the name in Turkish and avoid the association with the bird. However, the birds are actually named after the country... kind of.
So the Turkeys in the Americas are named after another bird called the Guinea Fowl which looks similar. These birds are native to Africa, and were prized for their plumage. However, in English they were called Turkey hens and Turkey cocks because they were traded into Europe via the Ottoman Turks. When the English arrived in the Americas, they thought it was the same or a similar bird. In reality, they are about as closely related to each other as we are to Gibbons.
CnC/Chilluminati Live entry suggestion advert (COMMENT ON CnC EPISODE 513 IF YOU CAN)
In the most recent episode, 513, Jesse said took my suggestion of community suggestions for the live show indtead of using AI after the community said AI was a bad idea.
As such, I am.making this post to advertise that he wasnts suggestions.
To make it easier forthe member of his team, I suggest this format:
"This is whete you insert your sentence, use quotation msrks"
Show entry suggestion
If you cant comment on YouTube, leave your suggestion in the comments here.
Alternetative suggestion to the AI liveshow intro: A compilation of audience suggestions
So Jesse mentioned an idea of feeding an AI all the Joey Chestnut intros to get it to generate intros for people at the live show.
My alternative suggestion is that you get people to comment individidual sentence to make up the intro, and then string them together. Kind of like that activity you might've done as kibds where everyone writes a single sentence in a story.
Ok so I know Kane Parsons is the director of Backrooms, produced by A24, and he is anti generative AI in film. So is this post saying he's an idiot for that stance or what?

Too Old For this Suggestion: Slurmcore (explanation in description)
Hello!
This is a trend I discovered yesterday, though admittedly it is a few months later to the party. For context, I am a younger millenial, right near the gen Z border, and very online.
So, what is Slurmcore:
Simply put it's an internet microgenre which remixes songs to have increased speed (usually by cutting out every other beat) while lowering the pitch of the vocals. Other effects are also often added to add to the chaos, with the ammount of chaos varying depending on the video. The origin of this meme started with the video simple titled Mmmm Slurms. Apparntly it was orriginally uploaded to Tumblr in 2017 and reuploadd to YouTube. That video was a modiufid vrsion of 500 miles by the Proclaimers and featured a gif version of the attached image.
That image was actually a smaller meme from around 10 years ago called "John Lennon The Absolute Madman" after the title of a reddit post that had that featured Lennon in the odd pose, and preead as people made various gifs and image. However, Slurmcore wouldn;t spread until 2025 when the orriginal Mmmm Slurms video became popular all of a sudden thanks to a reeupload. As such, the background of various slurmified music videos often feature distorted gifs of the John Lennon photo, though som feature various other distorted backgrounds.
Now, personally I love this kind of weird chaotic edits and mashups and so on. Obviosuly this isn't an entirely novel concept, there is definitely overlap with various older trends like nightcore (where people would speed up music with it often being higher pitch). However, I could totally understand others being like "I hate this" or "I don't see the point". That said, I do think there is something very early internet or at least arly YouTube about the simplicity of it.
So, some examples:
The orriginal Mmmm Slurms video:

This is one of the most popular ones (Mama Mia by ABBA)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R14fEFl7Rks&list=RDR14fEFl7Rks&start_radio=1
This one is My Way (this one had added subtitles!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjzg3cbQIck&list=RDBjzg3cbQIck&start_radio=1
And this one is my personal favourite bcaus it's the most chaotic. Im a big fan of Neil CIcieriega's mashup albums and this one has some of that energy imo. Its mostly of Tubthumping but it has a bunch of other stuff too

This text will also be in the comment.
Hi folks! So, this is part of a project I'vee been working on for a while in a fictional South America where the Inca Empire survives. Due to the empire's survival a cascade of other impacts occurs resulting in a bunch of new countries and the change of borders to existing ones. I'll giv a brief overview of each but I won;t go super in depth because that involves a very long timeline. Also apologies ofr the slight amateur quality and any centring issues.
Anyway, here we go:
Tawantinsuyu (the Inca Empire).
Survives because Atalhuapa insists Pizarro meet him in his camp outside Cajamarca rather than inside the city. Pizarro is unable to conduct the ambush, then is sent away. The Empire still almost collapsed with the population dropping from about 12 million to 5.4 million between 1520 and 1600 due to disease, only recovering in the 1830s (it's about 73 million today). After that it slowly recovered over the centuries, and started to build up some relations, most notably with the Dutch in the 1600s which helped accelerate their technological advancement. At this time, they began trying to develop a trade network through the Amazon to reach the Dutch colonies in the Atlantic. At the time, the Dutch had actually invaded northern Brazil and had taken over the Amazon delta region. They were later kicked out by Portugal, but the Inca continued to develop the trade network into an alliance of native Amazonian tribes to act as a buffer state. This would eventually lead to the nation of Tekoari. Later in the 1700s they developed ties with the British and even fought alongside them in the 7 years war against the Spanish Colonies that bordered them. In the 1850s, the Inca signed a defence pact with Paraguay after Paraguayan and Brazilian relations had deteriorated, leading to a war in which the Inca fought to defend Paraguay against Brazil. Though successful, the war was costly and the general in charge led a coup, installing a military junta in 1859. Eventually a rebellion occurred, starting the Tawantinsuyu Revolutionary War from 1882 to 1886. The rebels won and a constitutional monarchy with an elected parliament was installed. The old Imperial Banner was combined with the revolutionary flag to create the modern flag. The flag has the black snakes symbolising the earth and imperial power, with the sun rising between green fertile lands and the white sky for peace, while surrounded by a red circle symbolizing blood and sacrifice
Wallmapu:
This is a nation to the south of the Inca in central Chile and central-west Argentina. It formed out of the various Mapuche peoples of the area gradually coalescing together. Initially their homeland was west of the Andes but just like in real history they also spread east. Once enemies of the Inca, Tawantinsuyu actually ended up supporting them as a useful buffer state. Their flag is geography based, with the green representing the more fertile east, the blue being the sky and the origin of rivers in the mountains, and the yellow is the more arid east. The central selection also has the Guñelve, a popular Mapuche symbol which represents the planet venus. That section is also a nod to a flag which may have been used historically.
Tekoari:
Born of a trade network set up by the Inca in the 1600s which gradually turned into an alliance, then loose confederacy, then federation. They are a landlocked nation which has control over most of thee Amazon basin. Most of their population is concentrated in the east around the ara the major waterways converge, with the Negro and Tapajos being their eatstern borders. They are very sparely populated with little government control outside of the major waterways. Their flag symbolises water, forest and sky.
Guyane du Sud
The equivalent of French Guiana, but settled in a different location. Basically when the Dutch were fighting Spain and Portugal in the 1600s, the latter two allowed France to settle the area north of the Amazon River delta to split up the Dutch holdings in Guiana and Brazil. So basically thy settled where the Brazilian state of Amapa is and then down the river to the Negro confluence. However, unlike French Guiana, they became independent in the 1970s. Their flag is a representation of the green interior and fertility, the yellow sands of the beach and wealth, and the blue representing the ocean and their French connection.
Patagonia:
So, in this timeline with the Inca controlling the highlands, including the area around Potosi, Spain began settling Patagonia much earlier in the 1700s. This was roughly the same tim the Mapuche also began expanding in that direction and a series of conflicts occurred in the 1700s. At the conclusion of the 1700s, it was agreed that the area would be a loose autonomous colony technically under Spain but governed separately from La Plata. In the 1830s after Paraguay had successfully fought for its independence in the 1810s, Patagonia also fought an independence war, supported by Wallmapu and Brazil. Its flag is roughly geographic, showing the pointed shape of southern Chile and Argentina, with blue ocean on each side, the yellow beaches and the reed being the blood of the people.
So, some quick notes about other countries:
La Plata:
Basically Argentina but because they couldn’t reach the silver mines in the ANdes, they invested more heavily in securing their coastal areas, so they also control Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul.
Paraguay:
They are a lot larger than real life. Basically they control the southeastern third of Bolivia and parts of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. Essentially the Inca made a deal in the 1600s saying that all the land east of the Andes and south of the Amazon/La Plata drainage divide could be SPain’s if they agreed that it would be semi-autonomous from La Plata. Thai exploited a pre-existing divide between Asuncion and Buenos Aires so the Ascunsion government accepted.
Colombia:
Because the Andes couldn't be conquered, Spain invested more heavily into solidifying control over the northern territory and creating a central authority there. As such, it was divided and stayed as one country after Bolivar’s death (though Panama still became independent). Maracaibo, Bogota and Caracas are the executive, legislative and judicial capitals.
Suriname:
Much the same as real life though they also control the territory of real life French Guiana.
Guyana:
The same as real life but they also expanded south beyond the Guiana highlands and also control Roraima State
