Need advice about a refund. Beyond frustrated with the situation.

I want to preface this with I know you get what you pay for and I know where I booked. To be quite frank I’ve already accepted the fact that I’m probably not going to get this money back; but I figured before I completely move on I would post here and see if anybody can help me come up with a workable solution.

Two months ago I booked a room at a Motel 6 for two nights. This is tearing your string of similar bookings at other Motel 6 properties in the same city. Should be Frank. I was down on a look with nowhere else to stay and so was forced to go with the cheapest room possible I have a dog and pet stay free there so it was the most consistent option and say what you want, but there are worse hotels.

The day of the booking i show up and for reasons outside of anybody’s control i did not go through with the stay, renovations currently underway meant that there was no wifi available, as I booked a room expecting to have wifi access and needed it for work, the desk agent agreed that it was best to cancel it and since it was no fault of my own they took care of this for me. It is important to know that the front desk canceled it not me and they told me (and I’ve stayed enough Motel 6 locations to know that this is usually the case) that to get the refund for the room I would need to contact support.

In between then and now I have called support at least 10 times, they tell me that it does show on their end as cancelled by the property but I would have to speak to the office about the refund. I have gone into the office and called support with the manager standing in front of me, support told the manager that they would need to receive an email stating that yes they were the ones against the reservation and not me and that they never received the money from the booking in the first place because I never checked in and followed through with it, after which they could put the refund through. I stood there and watched as the manager sent this email. Multiple times by multiple support people during these calls I was told that the refund would be in my bank in 2 to 4 business days and I hung up the phone truly believing that it was in process only to call back and seemingly be right back at square one. Even if it were me canceling the reservation, and thus subject to the policy posted online, I should be only penalized the first night of the day and due back one nights charges. I’ve also filed a charge bag request for my bank, though I am not sure I did so correctly because despite being book-ended by other charges for motel 6 stays at other properties that were not in question and my stating that I was requesting a charge back due to not being given a refund I was promised. (and even more to the point another charge at a different Motel 6 later that day when I went to another property, which I was not calling into question) I don’t have a history of chargebacks in my bank and this is the only one I’ve ever filed. If anybody’s wondering why I was switching properties like I was there multiple in the string pretty much every other exit where I live, and the rates can very wildly from one night to the next and so to save as much money as possible it was cheaper to go from location to location to get the cheapest rate. Also, I freelance/do gig work and as I said things were particularly rough during this period and I was having to rely on money coming in day to day not even week to week. At minimum, and per their policy, I am owed at least one of the two nights and that’s if I concede that the cancellation was my fault which I do not. But all I get report is I need to talk to the property and all the property tells me if they never received the money so there’s nothing for them to refund. The front desk also refuses to tell me when I may be able to come in and speak to a manager and I just have to get lucky and happen to stop by when she is there, which is rare. It is only happened once and that was when the email was sent while I was standing there, and so I had a reasonable expectation that it was taken care of at that point. If you have any questions that I may not have covered, it would help figuring this out. Feel free to ask once again I’m at a loss as to how to get this resolved because repeatedly at every turn every time I try it seems like it’s going to be and then I wait a week only to never see the refund hit my account and try again. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.
