Hands up, who's playing this weekend?

Tell us when and where, doesn't matter how small the room is!

I play the grassroots circuit and I've been talking to venue operators, the same thing keeps coming back almost word for word:

"band nights don't perform any better than DJ nights, but they cost a lot more and are far more hassle."

I don't think they're wrong about their own tills, what I can't work out is whether that's just how it is now, or whether it's a solved problem somewhere else?

• Is there something bands or venues do that actually changes the maths?
• If you run a room, does a band night ever out-earn a DJ night, and what makes the difference when it does?
• If you're in a band, what have you seen work? (door splits, midweek slots, bringing your own crowd, anything).
