Retrofitting old passive speakers
Hey everyone,
Before I dive into building speakers from scratch, I thought I’d start by retrofitting a pair of old passive speakers to turn them into active AirPlay 2 speakers. It seems like a fun way to learn the ropes first.
I’ve been looking into the Up2Stream Plate Amp 2.1 for this project but can’t find many hands-on reviews or build reports. A few things I’m already aware of:
• The module is not airtight, so I’d need to account for that in the cabinet design
• As far as I understand, the two speakers still need to be connected by a cable to each other – is that correct, or is there a fully wireless stereo solution I’m missing?
Has anyone done something similar? I’d love to hear about your experience – what worked, what didn’t, and any tips for a first-timer.
(Mods/community: if this is a frequently asked question, feel free to remove it – happy to be pointed to existing threads instead.)
