English speaking driving school in Sofia?

Hi all,

Just moved to Bulgaria with my Chinese wife, and while I can use my EU driving license here, hers is not recognized and can't be converted easily.

Also, she hasn't been driving in the last 8 years or so and would rather take the exam from scratch, so I'm looking for recommendations where she could get that sorted in English (or well, Chinese, but that's probably a bit of a stretch :-P).

Thanks a lot for your recommendations!

Escalation for delayed tax refund?

Hi all,

I'm a foreigner living in Malaysia for almost 2 years, and as some of you might know, for the first 180 days we are taxed as non-residents until the resident status comes through, this was in 2024.

As such my salary was taxed at about 30%/month for half a year, I filed my tax return accordingly to recover the surcharge, and in the myHasil system everything looked good. Since I didn't know how long the process usually takes, I only started following up after about half a year, already towards the end of 2025. I've received acknowledgements, but very vague answers as to when the payment will be made.

Now in 2026 I've submitted my 2025 tax return (way lower of course since now I just had some small claims) and it was processed within 4 weeks, meaning I got my 2025 return before 2024.

I've since picked up pace and kept calling them on a weekly basis, sent emails etc., and again got plenty of apologies and acknowledgements about needing this approval or that since the amount is fairly high (>RM 30k). Last communication was past Friday where they mentioned that they need to wait for funds to be allocated.

My friend also called them yesterday to see if there's anything that can be done to speed up processing, but they also just told her to wait until next week - but I've gotten that same answer like 6 times already.

Do you know if there is any actual escalation process that (a) works, and (b) won't just turn the officer handling my case against me?

Thanks!
