[Warning] Avoid Helvetus watch straps – A €70 "Swiss Heritage" dropshipping trap (and a lesson in due diligence

First off, I will take the L right out of the gate: I completely failed to do a rigorous background check on this company before hitting the buy button. I kept my guard down one time and I got burned.

I was looking for a new strap for my Tissot PRX and came across Helvetus. Their website looked highly professional, I was tired and I clicked buy without doing my usual checks on Trustpilot, Reddit, and other forums.

Here is what actually happened:

I noticed that the package took unusually long to arrive, therefore I contacted the customer support (who I presume is an AI agent) that gave me the link to check the shipping. Noticing that the package was sent from China I responded that it was suspicious, and they dismissed my inquiries. I decided to wait for the package.

A couple of weeks later, the package arrived. It wasn't dispatched from Lucerne. It came in a generic, crumpled Cainiao mailer straight from a sorting center in Dongguan, China. Inside, the strap was in cheap plastic ziploc bags, complete with generic "Made in China" inventory tags.

To make matters worse, the actual build quality is incredibly poor. The clasp is so poorly machined and flimsy that it pops open constantly just from normal wrist movement. It is practically unwearable.

After a quick 5-minute reverse image search (which I should have done in the first place), I found the exact same unbranded strap on AliExpress for €20.

I emailed their support, pointing out the deceptive marketing, the Chinese shipping labels, the failing clasp, and the AliExpress link. I demanded a partial refund to match the actual €20 retail value of the strap, or a prepaid return label.

Their response was a masterclass in dropshipper evasion and a complete disregard for consumer rights:

They claimed that while they are a "Swiss brand," they technically never used the exact hyphenated phrase "Swiss-Made" on the product page, so using Asian fulfillment centers doesn't constitute misrepresentation. (Just heavy implications of Swiss heritage to justify a 350% markup).

They told me I could return it for a refund, but explicitly refused to provide a prepaid return label or box. They are completely disregarding EU consumer protection laws, which mandate that if an item is misrepresented, non-conforming, or defective (like a clasp that won't stay shut), the seller must cover the return shipping costs. Instead, they expect me to pay out-of-pocket for tracked international shipping and customs to send this €20 Chinese strap to their warehouse in Switzerland.

They explicitly tried to talk me out of doing a chargeback, claiming they would win because they have "proof of fulfillment."

At this point €70 is not a huge concern, I'm just angry that I got played. I'm writing this so that the next guy that searches the brand online has the chance of seeing this and avoids being scammed. I'm also trying to file an "Item Significantly Not As Described" (SNAD) / Defective Merchandise chargeback with my bank and flag their storefront to Shopify for violations regarding deceptive practices.

Wish me luck and don't buy from them.
