My personal router stopped working, only the spectrum-provided router works

Until yesterday I had my own router with spectrum internet, everything was working fine and suddenly it didn't. Route couldn't get an internet connexion from the modem, tried with another router I had, same issue.
I called Spectrum, they said I could change the modem if I wanted to, which I did. sAfter calling them and activating the modem, till the same issue. They sent a technician.
Technician came, checked a few things, didn't understand why it didn't work, ended up getting a spectrum router and once activated (with a $10 monthly fee), it worked.
The technician was as baffled as me, and I told him the only reason why it didn't work I can think of is that Spectrum is limiting the access to other routers. He did not agree nor disagree... I smell a class action lawsuit 5 years from now, but in the meantime I want my router to work like it did yesterday morning.
Has anyone else gotten such an issue? The technician just left, (very nice and professional by the way) I'll try to hard reset my router and see if I can get it to work but I'd really like to get off the spectrum router, it's almost for the principle now.
