I just finished season 1 & 2! This show is so hype!

I know im a little late to the party, but man, this show is sooo freaking good! I havent been this hyped by a show in such a long time! I just wish there was a way to watch season 3 (please release the rest of season 3 on YouTube soon, SAMG, some of us are still waiting to see it).

I also found it interesting how they continued to utilize the season 1 characters in season 2 in some meaningful way, and not just completely discard them like a lot of other "made-to-sell-toys" shows tend to do. It shows that the creators still see them as characters in some way, and not just "old product that's no longer on store shelves." It's quite refreshing to see.

Where Can I Watch Any of the Cartoons? Censorship in English Dubs? Are There English Subbed Versions to Watch Online?

So, I'm new to Tobot in general, I discovered it years ago through toy reviews on YouTube and I always thought about giving the franchise a go, but I never got around to it.

I discovered through some digging online that the OG series apparently had some issues where the Canadian English dub cut certain scenes and changed dialogue to fit a Western audience, but can anyone tell me if the same happened to Tobot V/Galaxy Detectives?

I've been trying to Google about it since that series is available on Netflix in my country, and I thought I'd give it a try since I already like some of the toys from that line, but after discovering that most people hate that show, I can't get any definitive answers through Google Searches as to whether or not the English dub of that series has censorship issues as well.

Also, are there any original Korean dubs of any of the shows with English subtitles available anywhere online?

Thanks in advance :)

A basic guide for beginner collectors of the line

So, I did a bit of research after making my post earlier looking through the various places the toys are available, and I discovered a few things that I thought may be worth noting for anyone else first getting into the line.

At the time of this post, there are 3 different toylines in 3 different countries.

  • Those being: the original South Korean toyline, the Chinese toyline, and the US toyline (which is still in its infancy). Because of this, there are 3 different localized variants of some of the figures released so far.
  • While there are a few minor paint differences between each version and maybe some differences in QC, the main standout change between companies are the card images. The Korean ones feature English text, the Chinese ones feature Chinese text, and some of the US ones I've seen online appear to ignore the text altogether. I find this is particularly worth noting if you're a stickler for these kinds of details and can't live with the knowledge that, if you purchased each figure from a different source, you're likely to have a mismatched collection of cards.
  • Also, all 3 toylines cover Season 1 in its entirety.
  • The Korean and Chinese toylines both also cover Season 2 (The US toyline is likely to cover this in the future as well).
  • The Korean toyline is the only one so far that has covered Season 3, as the US line hasn't even reached Season 2 yet, and the Chinese line has spent more of its focus on their exclusive toylines focusing on their live-action TV series. Speaking of which...

The Chinese toyline includes exclusive toys that tie-in to their exclusive live-action TV series.

  • The first is the "Beast Energy" line, which introduces a series of animal card partners for the Season 1 characters. Some of these appear to be packaged as both a pack-in with the mainline Season 1 toys, and as standalone releases, while the rest are standalone (though, still featuring the respective motif of the other Season 1 characters).
  • The sequel season to Beast Energy, "Zerg Crisis," also utilizes the Season 1 characters, but with some minor retooling to accommodate their new insect/bug card partners that form armour for the respective bot they're packaged with. At the time of writing this, the bug partners are only available as pack-ins and aren't sold separately.
  • There is also an additional role-play gimmick featured in the Chinese releases, à la Super Sentai, which revolves around the wrist-mounted "Chinese Metal Breath" toy, which is able to scan NFC chips found in the animal cards to activate different sounds (I'm not entirely sure if the NFC chips can only be found in the animal cards or whether they're present in all of the cards found in the Chinese line, feel free to let me know if you know more).

Which retailer sells which toyline?

  • If you're buying from Amazon: Those are generally the Korean versions of the figures.
  • If you're buying from AliExpress: Those are more likely to be the Chinese releases... unless you're buying from an independent seller rather than a store, then you may come across some Korean figures as well (basically, just look at the packaging in the images. The Chinese and Korean alphabets have very different looking characters, so if you have any familiarity with what either alphabet looks like at a glance, even without being able to read them, you should be able to tell the difference).
  • Also, some AliExpress stores sell KOs and try to pass them off as the real thing, so just be mindful of that, and check the store feedback if/when making purchases, as some of the negative feedback I've seen has called out with photographic proof when a store has done this.
  • If you're buying from Agabyss or BBTS: Those are the US releases (I mean, the packaging is in full English, it's pretty obvious).
  • If you're buying from eBay: Those can either be the Korean or the Chinese releases, just check where the seller is located. Korean stores typically sell the Korean versions, and the Chinese stores the Chinese versions (go figure).

Which is the cheapest option for where I live?

  • That is entirely up to your preferences and how much you're willing to spend on some chonky robot toys. If you live in the US, I would probably say the US versions would be your best bet, however -- as stated above -- the US line only covers Season 1 so far, so if you're impatient, you'll have to go with one of the alternate routes.
  • As for the rest of the world, I've seen a lot of people gravitate towards AliExpress with the Chinese versions as the next cheapest option, especially if you can get in during a sale. Some sellers can also offer free shipping, which may make it a little more appealing to some (given your country doesn't have strict import tax laws, of course).
  • That being said, the Chinese line doesn't cover Season 3, so you'll likely have to either go with either eBay or Amazon for the rest.

Phew. I know that is a lot of information to process, but I think it's worth knowing the differences between each of the toylines and which seasons each of them cover. I'm still new to the Metal Cardbot line myself, so feel free to add any additional information below, as I think this may be a useful post for people to come back to if they feel as overwhelmed as I did a few hours ago looking to buy my first figure and not knowing where to even start lol.

Where can I find the toys?

Hey everyone, I know this question has likely been asked a lot, but where can I find the toys to buy? (For context, I live in New Zealand).

I've been looking around online (BBTS, Amazon, Agabyss, etc.), and AliExpress appears to be the cheapest place for me to get them, but I'm unsure on whether or not they are the official releases? I'm aware that AliExpress is essentially just a Chinese Amazon, but because they also sell a lot of KO product as well, it's hard to tell which store is selling authentic items... Or if any of them are.

I've also already checked all of my local online retailers, and as I expected, nothing carries them here (I'm already used to this with some of my other niche interests like Super Sentai, which I tend to buy the toys for through Amazon JP or eBay where I can).

Thanks in advance :)

Tobot toy quality

Hi all, I was wondering what the Tobot toy quality is like? Specifically, Tobot V/Galaxy Detectives (I like chonky transforming gimmicky toys).

Are there differences in build or plastic quality between the Korean and official Chinese releases or any other country the lines have released in? (I'm fairly new to Tobot, and last I looked the toys were only released in Korea and China, so idk if that has changed since or not).

(For added context, I'm quite familiar with Transformers and 2010s-2020s Super Sentai toys, so I'm wondering if the quality is on par with anything from Hasbro/TakaraTomy and/or Bandai).

Thanks in advance :)

Are there audiobook versions of the EU novels?

Are there audiobook versions of all (or at least most) of the EU novels?

EDIT 1: Just so everyone knows what it is I want to check out, Darth Bane, Darth Plagueis, the CWMMP novels (Shatterpoint, Republic Commando, etc.), The Thrawn Trilogy, any of the other post-ROTJ era stuff like NJO and so on. Maybe later down the line I'll branch out to more, but for now those are the main stories I want to check out.

EDIT 2: I just started listening to the unabridged version of Heir to the Empire on Audible! I love the inclusion of music and sound effects to help immerse you in the story! Also, Marc Thompson does a pretty good job of replicating the OT voices, just based on what I've heard so far (I'm on chapter 2 atm)

My Alienator MOC is finally finished and the instructions are now live!

Hey everyone! As the title suggests, I finally received all of the parts to finish building the body module! Sorry it took so long, there were some complications with my Bricklink orders (see the comments on my last post for the gist of that whole saga).

There were some tweaks made with the design to make things a bit sturdier, specifically around the rear engines and the ankles. However, the ankles are still a tiny bit weak due to the way they're connected. I couldn't work out a better way to connect the feet to the legs without compromising the sturdiness of the rest of the build, so I elected to leave it as is. The ankles hold together just fine for display and basic play, it's only vigorous back and forth movements of the legs that can cause the feet to detach.

If you haven't seen my previous posts, this build features the classic shuffle-walk function of the original set, and a hinged roof assembly on the body module. It also has tool storage inside the body for modernized updates of the tools that were included with the original set, as well as additional places for a rocket launcher a camera and a metal detector.

Instructions are free on Rebrickable, and both modules were uploaded individually for people to part out either module as they see fit.

Cockpit module instructions and parts list can be found here: MOC-261347 - Blacktron Alienator Cockpit Module

Body module instructions and parts list can be found here: MOC-263114 - Blacktron Alienator Body Module

Happy building! :)

Hey everyone! I received my Pick-A-Brick order with the remaining pieces needed to build the cockpit module!

It turns out that the design is sturdy and didn't need any real modifications at all, other than changing the orientation of some of the pieces present. I've also tested it out with a Blacktron pilot too and I'm pretty happy with the results.

With that being said, instructions for this module have been made available over on Rebrickable if anyone is interested in building it for themselves!

I'm currently waiting on the pieces for the body to arrive from Bricklink (Pick-A-Brick took a little bit longer than I would've liked, even if all the pieces were brand new, so I've decided to use a mix of new and used parts for the body). Next week is the ETA for the last of those orders to get here, if anyone is curious.

Once I have test-built the body module design and made any adjustments that may be required, I'll release the instructions for that separately (I find it also helps for parts cost dividing the parts inventories for both modules -- Plus, if someone wants to build their own cockpit or body modules to go with either of my module designs, then they have the freedom to go ahead and do so without having to figure out what parts belong specifically to which module in the Rebrickable parts inventory).

Hey everyone! As the title suggests, I've finally completed this bad boy!

I made a few alterations to the body, such as widening the opening top panel to call back a little bit more to the original set which used those large corner wall pieces. I also found that keeping the top the same width along the entire body made the Alienator look like a big sausage and I wasn't too happy with that lol. I also brought the rear engines forward 2 studs, as I felt like the engines sat too far back in my last update post.

As for the foot design, I took inspiration from the official Alienator alt. build for the Icons Renegade set. I also wanted to make the feet long enough to support the full weight of the cockpit and rear engines because I think this model may be rather top-heavy.

As I mentioned in my last post, I've included an interior with Icons Renegade console prints, and a couple of tools that reference the original Alienator set. The original laser gun/flashlight piece is no longer in production, and I just built the Icons Galaxy Explorer yesterday which gave me the idea to make the gun/flashlight build for this MOC like the ones included in that set. I know the original Alienator used yellow pieces for the tools, but LEGO only ever made the robot arm piece in yellow once, so I figured black would be the next best colour for this modernized update (plus, it goes with the black metal detector and rocket launcher camera included in the Renegade set).

As an added bonus, I built the original set in Studio to compare the size and aesthetics of the two models.
