Birdie boy is possibly in his final stages of life. Seeking advice and comfort.

(I am not seeking medical advice. I plan to take my bird to see my vet first thing in the morning)

I have 3 budgies.

This guy is around 8 years old. I got him from a petsmart in 2018. My vets been preparing me for a goodbye in the near future just since he’s so old

He’s had bad molts for a while but this one’s different.

This is either a very old bird (who is extra stressed out about a very bad molt, but generally will end up fine) or he’s ill (in which case I am concerned about his cage mates)

I will be calling my vet as soon as they open in the morning either way.

If I get bad news, due to his age I am inclined to do comfort care or outright assistance in saying goodbye rather than seek treatment.

I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that… but I trust the opinion of my vet. If it does, does anyone have advice for me in keeping him comfortable? Coping with the loss… etc

I have said goodbye to a bird before but it was very sudden and unexpected. He was about 3-4 years old. He went from healthy bird to gone within minutes of leaving the room. I haven’t had to figure this out before…

The other two flock members look totally fine and are about 5. Assuming this isn’t illness they will have eachother to lean on.
